One of my special versions of Thai food - pure awesomeness. Between the jalapeno and Serrano peppers it'll sweat the Satan right out of you, cure what ails you, and set you back on track with complete yumminess!

Thai food is also one of the famous GoTo's for when you're trying to recover from an illness and you need your fever to break.

ProTip: When you catch octopuses, make sure to drop them into a bucket of fresh water - they have no osmoregulatory system, so they can't stop the onslaught of fresh water rushing through their cell membranes to equalize with the salinity in their body. They're pretty much instantly (a couple of minutes, actually) tenderized as a result of the cells in their body exploding, which makes for all sorts of delicious possibilities - like Octopus Spaghetti sauce, another one of my personal favs.

But nothing, and I mean nothing, tops this dish, except maybe getting something very similar to it at an actual Thai restaurant, ... Nah! It's better when you cook it at home and only takes a few minutes. You can queue up a movie and uncork a bottle of wine... Fine romantic evening.

> On any online space, you should consider who you give power to. Who has the control over who you choose to associate with?

I concur 100% with this assertion.

> All that the instances who sign the fedipact are doing is signalling to some of us that somewhere is safe for folk who don't want to engage with Facebook at all.

I don't think that's all, and actually, What those instances may (inadvertently) be signalling is that they will take it upon themselves to remove the Freedom of Association from the user themselves, without prior expectation or consultation.

I don't know where "Freedom of Speech" entered the conversation, but the notion of "Freedom of Association" has indeed been taken from those who have chosen to excercise those privileges belonging to the users themselves. Waking up and realizing that you can no longer communicate and share recipes with grandma, without evern having been consulted, is an affront to the Freedom of Association - it's inclusive of an even larger issue surrounding the reasons that *smolweb and single-user and self-hosted platforms are protective of such principles Freedom of Association.

Further, it serves to create an environment (especially when so many platforms now support migration ingress) where one's Fediverse accounts are considered ever more transient, as the realization that having an account on a silo based Fediverse instance is the antipathy of #Fediverse and #DeSoc philosophies.

It also erodes the trust between the average user and administrators that you thought you could entrust with respecting your freedom of association with.

> This is a Freedom of Association issue, ...

it is indeed, and a betrayal of trust for anyone who realizes that it is the overreach by someone else to decide that you should not have the Freedom of Association that likely brought most folks to the Fediverse in the first place.

I did a little non-scientific, anecdotal survey by contacting people I know on many of the instances that arbitrarily decided to remove those freedoms from their users overnight, and discovered that many have already migrated to other instances, or are contemplating it - the interesting thing? Many of my acquaintances had already decided to, or even configured their accounts to block #Threads; but to have someone else tell them what they're allowed, or not allowed to do, is a violation of someone's freedom to choose for themselves by despot personalities who dismiss the relevance of a right to choose for oneself.

It's a simple matter, to block instances, at the domain level, from one's own user account, and on most Fediverse platforms, there's actually an announcement utility (usually only used to beg for donations) whereby administrative staff can inform their user base of their own ability to control how they themselves choose to exercise their own preferences with respect to #Freedom_of_Association.

Ironically, when perusing the stats, it's the very largest (deprecated, monolithic silo oriented) Fediverse instances (in terms of the # of user accounts and MAU) that have chosen NOT to trample upon the individual user's Freedom to Associate with whom they themselves decide.

NOTE to Fediverse instance admins: Please take under consideration the trust that has been placed in you with respect to the freedoms all individuals are entitled to determine for themselves - reach out to your user base, deploy surveys, collect votes, whatever, but please don't just decide for someone else what you decide is good for people who are NOT YOU.

Subjugation and assimilation into the Borg Collective goes both ways folks.

Uh, Oh! We've Ratcheted up to a threat now on Adblock and UblockOrigin...

Soft landings usually mean it doesn't hurt very much at first, then perhaps the event becomes more frequent and escalates to something that looks like the attached screenie...

When this happens, you may wish to avail yourself of some of the alternatives below.

Once you get here you're faced with trying options or even becoming disenfranchised. Switching to another browser is a prudent test, some have suggested pasting links into Incognito Mode tabs or logging out, while others have claimed that stock Brave Browser seems to humming along for them; and third party utils from among the list that follows:

#### Web based:

- Invidious
- Piped

#### Android (both are available at F-Droid):

- LibreTube
- NewPipe

#### Desktop:

- FreeTube ( Linux | UNIX | Windows):

#### Browser extension (a native, local, cross-platform solution):

- AdNauseam
This last option is a simple browser extension that is apparently quite popular with folks, levying its own ethical pressure upon those who would force-feed you with data mined ad generation. The README file has some great information on the methodology incorporated.

On #Android, I haven't been presented with any of these foreboding pop ups warning me about blockers. I typically use #Brave or #Vivaldi Browser, they're stock, but I use the YouTube app more than I do any one of my browsers on my phones.

I also run the #DuckDuckGo "App Tracking Protection service". This is NOT #FOSS, so your choices are either installing from the #Aurora or Google Playstore, yet there's no requirement to use the #DDG browser to enable this protection - it's not for your browsers though (even DDG), it is designed to work with pretty much everything on your Android EXCEPT browsers; i.e., almost all of your installed apps, seamlessly, and since most folks stream YouTube videos through the Google YouTube Android app, I surmise that it targets and obliterates ads in the app (I haven't confirmed the veracity of that, it's merely supposition, but it blocks zillions of attempts by installed apps to phone home).

I'm Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, personal observations, and concerns; other toolsets or applications that meet your needs, and why you may have chosen those particular types of tools.

I hope that helps!

Most of you have never heard of Lynne and Bill Jolitz, nor do many of you have any awareness of the giants they really are, being the birth parents to not just three daughters, but also UNIX for this online, interconnected world we all live in, and affording us just sbout every single realtime convenience we all have the luxury of taking for granted.

Bill passed away earlier this year. Here's his story (your story, actually) from the woman who birthed that UNIX with him and gave us #386BSD (#Jolix), from which #NetBSD, followed by #FreeBSD, then #OpenBSD and #DragonflyBSD owe their direct lineage.

It was the beginning of free UNIX software for the masses.
