Jesus Christ! Not only has DuckDuckGo set up a specific website just for AI shit recently – now they have even started showing LLM generated bullshit by default in their search results. I don't want this! I never asked for this! Duck your climate destroying spam and propaganda machine!

I really need to get my act together and find a new search engine ASAP. But I can't say I've heard about anyone I'm convinced about, unfortunately. What do you recommend?

#DuckDuckGo#llm#ai

I'm using #DuckDuckGo to search the Internet for heavy duty corner cutting tools. Not the cheap plastic crap they sell at craft stores. I'm talking about a tool that will cut through at least 1/4 inch of paper at a time.

My gripe -- as always -- it seems impossible to search without getting Amazon, Etsy, and eBay pages in the results. Is there a trick I'm missing?

And can any #bookbinding folks out there recommend an affordable tool for a newbie?

@Fando

@soatok They're monitoring #DuckDuckGo; makes me curious what kind of information they're able to glean from something that is supposed to be a privacy friendly search engine that doesn't even have an accounts system. Maybe something to do with its AI front-end or something? Maybe they're just logging the IPs of visitors since Signal's website is also on the list.

Esimerkiksi:

An interesting thing about my brief foray into depressing red numbers in my site's visitor data though...

Google traffic down ~ 17k (fine, whatever, I can SEO properly and make useful content, but you can't SEO out those that pay to be inorganically above you).

Bing traffic up: 2k

#DuckDuckGo traffic up: 1k

DDG is my 3rd search engine and it's not that far behind Bing.

I'm liking this trend.

This is bad. I did a ddg search for Jewish us group, and the summary presented was wikipedia's Israel lobby in the United States page.

It's gross that ddg conflates Israel == Jewish, because that just furthers the anti-zionism == antisemitic ideas that are commonly prevalent today and used to indemnify Israel's inhuman treatment and intentional abuses of Palestinians.
