Last night, a friend organised a nighttime bike ride on the ice road to the neighbouring village of Dettah. It's about 6.5km across the frozen bay. It was quite slippery on the glare ice, even with studded tires, so we went at a leisurely pace and chatted away. When we got to Dettah, as if on cue, the #aurora erupted into a dancing, swirling riot of colour. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, which I hope comes across in these low res. photos. We stood enrapt in our bike helmets, or lay back on the ice to save our craning necks until it settled down into a placid glow in the distance before biking back to town.

And if you're wondering, yes there is good charging ability all the way through BC now and into Yukon as far as Dawson City. AFter that, on the Dempster Highway, it would only be two more stops to Tuk, all would require slow-charging on a standard 120V plug (24-48hrs) but hey, it'd just be part of the experience :)

Maybe by the time I get up there they'll have some L2 (240V) chargers to cut the wait time down to just overnight.

I have had another go at editing using the filmic and local contrast modules in #Darktable before work.

I am much happier with this result, I have also upped my export resolution so I can retain a little more detail.

Und das Beste: Die SuS schlagen mich beim Hörtest mit #phyphox und sind mächtig stolz darauf.

A female Sparrowhawk at NWT Cley Marshes on Friday.

She was perched on a post next to the boardwalk, stayed there for maybe a second or two as we rounded the corner and saw her. Just as I got my camera to my eye she was off!
