New #introduction post!

I'm Alicia and I'm a fibre artist (#dyeing #handspinning #felting #needlefelting #weaving #crochet #embroidery #upcycling #sewing) with interests in #mandala #art #psychedelicart #sacredgeometry #neurographicart and #watercolors.

My family and I run a business called @Fibre2Fabric where we dye all sorts of exotic #fibre #yarn, and #fabric.

I live in the country with my partner and our 6 #cats, 3 #dogs, #snake and #crestedgecko where I enjoy my many interests. (#gardening #plants #herbalism #fungi #music #ukulele #piano #dancing #flowart #reading #writing #tarot #poetry #haiku #cozygames and I'm getting more into #opensource / #linux)

When I say flow art, I mean spinning props like #hulahoop #leviwand #puppyhammer #poi #staff #silkfans #firefans etc.

I love #languagelearning. I studied #German and #Spanish as a kid, took #Japanese in uni, and I'm currently studying #ASL #Cree #Tokipona #Spanish and #Chinese. I also dabble in #French and #Latin sometimes and I'm learning #Greggshorthand to write faster. Cree is my favourite language and Spanish is my second.

I've been cursed since childhood with that lovely trifecta of #heds #pots and #mcas. Healing slowly but surely.

Hope I get to meet even more cool people the algorithms would normally drown out on other social media sites. I love it here!

#ASL question: the signs I'm seeing for "god" all seem imply the cross to me, some people do it like a cross being raised, and some like part of a catholic crossing themselves. Am I reading into that?

If not… what about Hindu gods? Praying to Ganesha "You are the god who's watched over me this whole journey."

And what about plurality like "Gods I love this" ? Referring to a pantheon like that seems extra effed up if you're pluralizing a Jehova / Jesus based sign.

So, I've been hyperfixating on #ASL lately, idk if I'd feel up to joining one, but I've been wondering if there are any regular jitsi (or other floss vidchat service) chat groups for people to practice sign.

Anybody know of one?

In related news. I was trying to figure out of there was an #ASL sign for Throuple or Threesome when I came across that.

I haven't found found signs for either of those, or one for #polyamory

I'm really hoping this finds its way to some poly signers who can let me in on the secret words. I'm finding it hard too believe folks are always finger-spelling all the consensual non-monogamy terms.

Tell your representatives that you support the Americans with Disabilities Act and providing d/Deaf people and Hard of Hearing people with ASL interpreters at EVERY government communication.

Want to learn? Awesome! Thank you.
I'm learning BSL (when I'm not increasingly sick -- wear your mask please) cuz I live in the UK.

My thanks to @clive for highlighting "#ASL #poetry" within the #deaf community I belong to, but people should be careful here: many deaf people don't like this concept, because it's a reminder of the bad ol' days when ASL was considered pantomime instead of a real language, i.e. "just a bunch of monkeys pointing at things." Be careful talking about this subject with deaf people, and don't be surprised if they get angry at you for saying, "Sign language is so beautiful!"

My hands are very important to me. I spent several years learning #ASL and eventually even got the chance to work FT as an interpreter in a school for a few years!

I always figured the fine motions I kept my hands busy with are a big part of keeping their dexterity *despite* the #Lupus and #arthritis, and I stand by that.
