David Bridger<p>There is a certain person who I wish would understand that I'm not hurting horribly because I don't move enough. It's the other way around - I can't move as much as I'd like because I'm hurting horribly. This is especially irritating because the person knows that before I got ill I was an endurance athlete. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pwME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pwME</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ME</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a></p>
David Bridger<p>In addition to all my normal <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ME</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a> pain, which I'm really quite well adapted to coping with, I have screaming sciatica, which I am really NOT coping with. I've cried out aloud several times this past 24 hours, which I never do normally, and last night when I didn't sleep more than 10 minutes at a time I even wept, which again is something I don't normally do with pain. /wail</p>
Mike<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://cupoftea.social/@coolpup" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>coolpup</span></a></span> Thanks, yes I do have some (lovely palm sized ones). <br>Unfortunately, for me, warmth &amp; heat seem to have minimal impact on the level of discomfort - as opposed to cold which can often make my joints quite painful. At the moment it's mostly my fingers, although my right knee &amp; both hips suffer occasionally.<br>I don't really understand why some <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a> sufferers don't always get relief from heat (like me) - although I gather it's something to do with inflammation and inflammatory response around the joints.<br>My wife has severe arthritis in her back and limbs and she does get significant relief from warmth. We're all different!</p>
Mike<p>Sitting here with fingerless mittens on trying to relieve the <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a> in my fingers (I don't think they really work but the placebo effect is strong!).<br>I will probably resort to co-codamol eventually.</p>
SamanthaAnother one of my favorites...CROCHET! I had a little etsy business at one point. I did pretty good, had fairly consistent orders. The thing about that is...taking something you do to relax and turning it into a business was a mistake. Putting absolutely ridiculous time frames for completing on myself was my first mistake. The second, not valuing my time and my commodity. I often priced myself so low that I was "earning" like $2.50 per hour I spent on the projects, or less! And so, I let the etsy business fizzle out and go dark. Will I ever sell my creations again? Maybe. But my love for crochet will be forever...even if my arthritis has other opinions. LOL!<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Crochet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Crochet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SmallBusiness?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SmallBusiness</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Skeleton?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Skeleton</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Newlyweds?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Newlyweds</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/MrAndMrs?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MrAndMrs</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Etsy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Etsy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Hobby?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Hobby</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Craft?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Craft</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Crafting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Crafting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/DIY?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DIY</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ThingsILove?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ThingsILove</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Texas?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Texas</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Dallas?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Dallas</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Handmade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Handmade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AmericanMade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#AmericanMade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Relax?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Relax</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Arthritis?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Arthritis</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Mistake?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mistake</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/LearnFromYourMistakes?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LearnFromYourMistakes</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Favorite?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Favorite</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Fave?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Fave</a>
Likely Jan Lukas<p>I was having a terrible time getting the last two fingers of my right hand to cover the <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/recorder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>recorder</span></a> holes properly.</p><p>I figured my <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a> was getting in the way so switched from <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/alto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alto</span></a> to <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/soprano" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>soprano</span></a> because the finger distance is a bit closer.</p><p>This change helped a little, but then <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/wildfires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wildfires</span></a> literally took my breath away all summer so I had to give up, as coughing ones's guts out doesn't work well with woodwinds.</p><p>9/x</p>
Likely Jan Lukas<p>That said, when my joints are flaring, my hands may be able to make fine *motions* but not control fine motor movements with a pen or pencil.</p><p>Despite occasional bouts of promising skills sketching or doing caligraphy, most of my life, I have relied on keyboards and mice to write and draw.</p><p>I've treasured the occasional periods where I *could* write by hand, but mostly I can't.</p><p>4/x</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Motion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Motion</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/MotorControl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MotorControl</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a></p>
Likely Jan Lukas<p>My hands are very important to me. I spent several years learning <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/ASL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ASL</span></a> and eventually even got the chance to work FT as an interpreter in a school for a few years! </p><p>I always figured the fine motions I kept my hands busy with are a big part of keeping their dexterity *despite* the <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Lupus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lupus</span></a> and <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a>, and I stand by that. </p><p>3/x</p>
Likely Jan Lukas<p>It's been a wild few days for me. About a week ago, I noticed a weird nodule on my palm.</p><p>I've had <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Lupus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lupus</span></a> for over 49 years now, and am used to the <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/arthritis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthritis</span></a> aspects waxing and waning depending on whether or not I'm in full remission at any given time.</p><p>Sometimes my hands look like the witch's in Disney's version of Snow White, sometimes they look just a big knobby at the joints but fairly normal.</p><p>1/x</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/yeg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>yeg</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/healthcare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>healthcare</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/hands" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hands</span></a></p>
