Catching up with some new dip pens.
@penfount
My own cursive (I'm now 70) had seriously deteriorated ever since i bought a desktop computer 25 years ago. I got to a point where I felt really ashamed of it and hesitated to hand write any message in birthday or holiday cards.
I have a fondness for old things, and had bought a bunch of circa 1910 humorous postcards. I found the beautiful handwritten script (cursive) personal messages on the backs of the cards to be extremely beautiful and endearing. I secretly wished i could write even slightly like that.
A few years later, I attempted fountain pen writing. As a leftie it was not easy, but I kept at it and altered my hand/arm angles. I loved it! My cursive improved, even becoming better than when i was in school, better than ever before.
Lately I've gone even more towards the 1910 era... have been enjoying using a dip pen with metal nibs and bottles of ink. It really seems to click with my sensibilities. It gives me great pleasure to write in a journal, and I'm super happy when friends and family tell me how much they love getting my cards on various occasions.
My personal journey to reclaim my cursive skills has been so rewarding and enjoyable.
In celebration of new #fountainpen day; Forever is composed of Nows by Emily Dickinson. The pen is a Monteverde Ritma in Midnight Orchid. I've only played with it a bit, but so far I'm enjoying it. The ink is Diamine Purple Dream, on a Stalogy notebook.

New #fountainpenink! Papier Plume's Ivy Green on a Stalogy notebook written using a fine nib Metropolitan. I wish it had a bit more shading, but I like it none the less. #poem is: Much Madness is Divinest Sense by Emily Dickinson.

I wrote 6 long cursive handwritten letters with pretty cards to some family and friends this week. Been meaning to do this for months, and finally got through them- the last are out for mail pickup tomorrow. Felt so good doing this!
I used both #fountainpen and #DipPen with my lovely inks. I used waterproof inks on the outside addresses. Included a few rubber stamping and decorative stickers. I also had some pretty postage stamps to use.
I find my dip pen cursive writing is getting smaller and more delicate over time. I think that's because the metal dip nibs enable incredibly hair-fine lines as well as the juiciest flex lines you can imagine.
So satisfying! (and extra thanks to LuciaG for added inspo)

A friend shared this with me from Instagram and I’d love to get it started here! I’m in the process of giving my handwriting a makeover so a good handwriting prompt is just what I need. If you’d like to join please do, using #RockYourHandwriting
Can you read #cursive? The National Archives needs you! There's so much history that is written longhand, and there is some doubt that future generations will be able to transcribe it.
Step away from the firehose, grab a cup of your beverage of choice, and settle down with some old copperplate handwriting and help preserve history.
"[Suzanne Isaacs, a community manager with the National Archives Catalog in Washington, D.C.] is part of the team that coordinates the more than 5,000 Citizen Archivists helping the Archive read and transcribe some of the more than 300 million digitized objects in its catalog. And they're looking for volunteers with an increasingly rare skill."
Can you read cursive? It's a #superpower the #NationalArchives is looking for.
More than 200 years worth of U.S. documents need #transcribing (or at least classifying) and the vast majority from the #RevolutionaryWar era are #handwritten in #cursive – requiring people who know the flowing, looped form of #penmanship

Are you a history buff? The U.S. National Archives is looking for volunteers who can read cursive to transcribe and classify documents including Revolutionary War pension applications, Japanese evacuation records, and the 1950s Census. Here's more from @USAToday, plus details on the decline of cursive. Tell us in the comments: Do you still use joined-up writing?
If you're American, when you were taught cursive, did you learn that the common American #cursive is called "Spencerian" script?
I did not learn this until I got into #fountainpens later in life and initially thought it was some British thing like "Edwardian" or "Elizabethan" calligraphy.
I guess it's time for an #Introduction again.
