True, but I would expect our latitudes are better for hibernating over summer, unless they've got *exceptionally* strong and long-lasting sunscreen.
(Given #Edmonton's love of #garlic I'm not sure this is even a particularly desireable site for vampire nests, but as that is outside the scope of my studies I am not up on the latest vampire research. )
The sun has returned!
I mean, it has always been there. Relatively speaking in the same place it was over the last few months. But the Earth’s tilt is such that as it revolves around the nearest star the portion on which I live (the northern hemisphere) is getting ever so slightly closer and faces it just long enough that temperatures are beginning to warm.

@Wraeth Home grown garlic is wonderful in the kitchen. It is good that you made it to early February with the 2024 harvest of German extra hardy garlic. It’s an excellent vintage and variety. Fermenting some of the harvest as garlic paste can extend your storage season all around the calendar. Basically a #bread dip out of melted #butter and whatever seasoning I feel in the mood for.
It actually kind of changes the experience (I like tearing off pieces and dipping them) and tastes a lot better imo..
@Lorrrraaaaine @Njord. I don’t know why the cookbooks remove the skins from the chickpeas. The skins are healthy in my understanding. We make raw hummus with sprouted chickpeas and fermented ingredients. Of course the skins are included. #hummus, #garlic, #fermentation.

@LifeTimeCooking. The garlic paste fermentation is yummy when you jar it. It’s alive and effervescent as you taste test by the teaspoon. Then the cold storage slows the fermentation down. The taste test a month later will be a wonderful, mellowed, complicated garlicness. However the effervescent is gone. #fermentation, #garlic.
January 6, 2025. Fermented hot sauces are still important. This is Sosu from the Kirsten Shockey book. The paste is the balance of our 2024 hot peppers, fermented 2023 garlic paste, palm sugar, and fish sauce. The fermentation started October 24th and ended today. Some of the hot peppers were sun dried so the flavor is wonderful and complicated.
