@giggls @ulrichkelber Deren Volumen- und Gewichtseffizienz ist signifikant schlechter als #LiFePO4 und daher eignen die sich nur für großvolumige #USV|s.

As predicted* #USV's acting as a mothership for FPVs again. Attacking near shore SAM sites seems like it could be a very nice force multiplier for larger UAV / cruise missile strikes. Also raises the possibility of re-using the relatively expensive USV for multiple sorties, especially for cases like this where the targets are fairly close to Ukrainian controlled territory

Any recommendation for an #USV (#UPS) for the #homelab?

I currently think about the APC Back-UPS BE850G2 for 115€/110$. It should cover three Mini PCs, a small 8 port 2.5Gbit Switch and a consumer router - hope this model should be able to provide at least 10 minutes of power on an power outage.

Alleged #Ukraine jet ski based #USV washed up on the Turkish coast near Istanbul. IIRC, in previous reports, jet skis were described as an early effort superseded by things like Magura 5 and Sea Baby. This one doesn't obviously look like it's been drifting for many months though, so maybe they're still preferred for some missions. Waterproofing all those external electronics boxes and connectors seems like it might be challenging

Yet another #USV type was also announced. Looks like it might be more cost/production volume optimized with a minimally modified COTS hull and outboard
(also, I'd give pretty good odds the Russians identify that fancy venue shown in the photos and drop some missiles on it, claiming it's now a "military target" 😬)

#Ukraine officially confirms R-73 equipped #MaguraV5 #USV "These modifications are effective, the Russians are very afraid of them" - even if the hit probability is low, it should make the Russians a lot more cautious about getting within gun range

#Ukraine equipping SeaBaby #USV with GRADs 🤨
spread has got to be pretty wild firing from the deck of a speedboat on open water, hard to see it being effective against land targets. Maybe distracting deck gunners in the last few hundred meters of an attack run on a ship?

As predicted (mastodon.social/@reedmideke/11), it's happening: "In the Black Sea, Russian forces spotted a Ukrainian USV armed with a twin rail launcher for R-73 all-aspect IR homing air-to-air missiles"

R-73 seems like a good fit: Good off axis capability, doesn't require radar, no worries about western suppliers complaining or having tech captured. Supply might be an issue, but numbers needed for #USV missions should be pretty small

If you wondered how #Ukraine ended up with two broadly similar attack #USV families (#Magura and #SeaBaby), according to this story: "Disputes over quality control, budget, and design specifications between the SBU and the [Magura] developer disrupted the program in 2022, leading the SBU to sever ties and start an independent naval drone project that later resulted in Sea Baby USV … The ousted company then partnered with [HUR]"
