Visited Belchite. The town was the focus of fierce battles during the Spanish civil war, being captured by Republican forces as they sought to reconquer Aragon which had endorsed the coup d'etat of Franco.

The town, whilst heavily bombarded, did survive the war, many of the buildings in these images were still inhabited into the 1950s. But Franco wanted to make an example of the town, being one of few the Republicans captured after Nationalists had seized parts of the country. So a new town was built, soulless and suburban, and now home to a population a third the size of what it was before the civil war.

Franco insisted the old town be left to rot as a monument to what communism does, ironic of course as it is the clearest example of what fascism does.

Highly recommend visiting. The area was a front line in the civil war and therefore there is a lot of history around.

Processing photos from our recent cruise.

This is the Salmon Eye in Hardangerfjord, Norway. It's both a floating art installation and a Michelin-starred restaurant with the sort of cost for a meal you'd expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant in Norway.

Yosemite
It was early spring, and a quiet snowstorm graced Yosemite National Park. I had the immense honor and privilege of experiencing this iconic place nearly alone—just me, the stillness, and the sound of falling snow. As I stood on the Swinging Bridge, gazing at the majestic Yosemite Falls framed in mist and fresh snow, a sacred hush filled the air.

“Defenseless”

I really don't like having to go to work in the La Défense district near Paris. It's a human anthill where people are mostly in a hurry to get from the train to the office and back again.

The only reason why a visit to this district might be of any interest is for architectural photography, with the many towers covered in glass reflecting each other.

The iconic Lowry Avenue Bridge stretches gracefully over the mighty Mississippi River, offering one of the most stunning perspectives of the Minneapolis skyline. As dusk settles over the city, the bridge’s sleek, modern arch is illuminated in a soft glow, reflecting off the water below in shimmering hues of blue and white.
