Some good news (for the North):

Keir Starmer has committed £415m of 'new money' to the ongoing electricfcation & improvement of inter-city rail services around the North...

But, as if he admits, this is a £10bn project & so today's announcement is more of a small continuity payment than a massive shift in speed of completion of a project already running a decade late... but at least Rachel Reeves has not actually cut it back (yet).

i´m not any good in reading foot prints, but i wonder who is wanering around the house and it looks like a big cat, maybe a lynx? 🤔
too huge for the neithbour´s cat or a fox and i guess too narrow chain of prints for a wolf 🤔 also wolverines may pass by here..
there is almost no snow left, found yesterday just a small area near a river - there were also lots of deers´ prints around, but that´s not new - they live here and walk and jump around all the time during the day 😃

when i was a kid growing up in the subarctic, i'd walk a few blocks from my house to go fishing down at the river after school

every time i walked there, i'd step over a railway that crossed the road. it was half-buried in the muddy gravel, and i was fascinated that it just ...... ended..... in a ditch, on the other side of the road. i never once saw a train car on it.

sometimes i'd throw rocks at the rusting hulk of a tugboat across the ditch, hoping to make a metallic thwak.

TIL that those last 10 feet of rail was the very end of canada's northernmost railway. i had no idea growing up, and i doubt anyone else i grew up with knew it either.

Just to prove that the BBC think all the North is the same, tonight on Strictly during Chris McCalusland's Liverpool themed dance, the design included reproductions of LS Lowry paintings, who as we know is an artist whose work focussed on Manchester.... but hey, they're Northern cities, so pretty much the same in the eyes of BBC production staff... duuhhhh
