Most lighthouses on the West US coast were built in the mid 1800s to early 1900s and look so similar that you get the idea there was a basic design for those governmental buildings! Most of their beauty comes from their spectacular surroundings

Model lighthouse at Heceta Head, Oregon shows the typical PNW format: a solid squat circular tower with the round light chamber at the top, with a small red roofed maintenance/guard duty building at the side. The lighthouse keepers typically did not live in the lighthouse, but in houses of to the side, which now are typically used as bed and breakfast inns. The setting is at the top of a cliff, with woods off to the side.

In the shadow of the Cranhill Water Tower in the east of Glasgow is a large map showing the locations of major lighthouses around the British coastline, complete with 75cm high model lighthouses. This seems to have been inspired by the nearby streets which are also named after a number of these lighthouses, such as Bell Rock, Newhaven, Lamlash and Skerryvore.
