Wonder how Alpena County, Michigan is doing. They announced door-to-door welfare checks yesterday.... (ice storm from 4 days ago!)
Alpena County will be conducting door to door wellness checks of our residents. To request a specific location/person be checked, click this link and complete the form https://forms.gle/jryUmMKBNtiQXDx8A To speed the process of door to door checks, hang a white item on your door if you're ok or a red item if you need help. Also see Alpena County website.
"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."

Slowly but surely power is coming on again.
The folks across the street have their power back now.
My ETA is 11pm.
Big thank you to hard working Hydro crews, as well as to Arborists and Volunteers helping to remove downed trees and debris.
There is still plenty of work to go - I know folks that are really rural and probably won't get power until next week! - and there's the possibility of another #IceStorm on Wednesday.
Stay Safe out there!
This was at the Mackinac Bridge at about 7:30 this morning. They closed the bridge due to falling ice shortly after we crossed. I-75 from St. Ignace down to about Grayling was wrecked- thousands of trees down. Didn't even get off the expressway because most places have no power.
Still standing
These coneflowers keep on giving! Dead months ago, dry and covered with snow, emerging again in the last days, now frozen in an ice storm. And always a good subject for photography!
Le verglas hier... J'ai eu une panne de courant et j'avais hâte de partager cette photo que j'ai prit dans mon jardin.

Looks like we are lucky to still have power. My thoughts are with those in Ontario who spent the night without heat and still no electricity to start their day
The tree is just a little frosty after the ice storm. #tree #IceStorm #michigan #UpperPeninsula
Another shout-out and thanks to all the Hydro crews, Emergency crews, and Essential (often underpaid) workers that are working overtime right now.
Well, it's been 24 hours since the power went out.
Very fortunate to have backups, neighbours, and to live in a place that understands that by cooperatively working together we can get through this faster than if we each work independently or competitively.
