What a beautiful short we watched today in #Hindi class. It nearly made me cry.
Completely wordless (we used it for me to describe things I see and to talk about the short itself) so anyone anywhere will understand it.
"दिल की तपिश आज है आफ़ताब"
मैं एक गीत को सजीव मानता हूँ, और ये भी कि कुछ गीत और गायक या बैंड, एक दूसरे के लिए बने होते हैं। अगर सजीव ना भी मानें तो कहा जा सकता है कि कुछ गीत सिर्फ कुछ गायक या बैंड के लिए हीं गढ़ा होता है।
एक बार उस गीत ने उस गायक या बैंड को छू लिया तो फिर चाहे कोई कितनी बार उसको कितना भी अच्छा करके प्रस्तुत कर दे -- वो गायक या बैंड वापस आकर उसके नए आयाम पर पहुँचा देता है। जहाँ अंतिम बार छोड़ा गया था उससे सुदूर।
इसके अनेकों उदाहरण हैं, जैसे टेक फाइव और डेव ब्रुबेक, बोहेमियन रहैप्सोडी और क्वीन, स्मैल लाइक टीन स्पिरिट और निर्वाणा इत्यादि -- और उसी सूची में मेरे लिए ये गीत और राहुल देशपांडे हैं।
वैसे तो विगत वर्षों में मैंने इस गीत के अनेकों अटेम्प्ट अलग अलग सेटअप में देखा है, अलग अलग लोगों के द्वारा प्रस्तुत -- बहुत अच्छे अच्छे लोग -- लेकिन राहुल की बात हीं अलग है।
चाहे कितना भी अलग सेट हो, एक सहायक कलाकार हो या पूरा ऑर्केस्ट्रा, सेमी क्लासिकल हो या फ्यूज़न, राहुल हमेशा इस गीत को नए आयाम पर ले जाते हैं। उनका लाइव इम्प्राविज़ेशन हमेशा कुछ नया और अलग अनुभव कराता है।
उम्मीद है कभी लाइव में भी सुनने का मौका मिले -- जादुई होयेगा!

I like when languages double up a word to give it emphasis or a new meaning. Like कभी - कभी (kabhi kabhi) in Hindi for "sometimes", or थोड़ी - थोड़ी (thodi thodi) for a little bit, like "mujhe ko thodi thodi Hindi samajhati hoon" (I understand a little bit of Hindi).
