C. Elegans: The Worm That No Computer Scientist Can Crack

The Giant Gippsland Earthworm grows up to two metres long. It will die if nicked, so researchers stomp the ground to research it.

We're live! Gonna (terribly) play worms with LittleNorwegians! Come be a friend and hang with us!

Mysterious and vulnerable: the secret lives of #Australia’s giant #worms - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/mar/03/mysterious-and-vulnerable-the-secret-lives-of-australias-giant-worms "Australia has a huge of diversity of worms on land, sand and sea such as the giant Gippsland earthworm which can stretch up to 3 metres" eeek
Ever since a PhD student introduced me to the idea, stolonization has been haunting my waking hours. Now it can haunt yours too: some annelid worms develop a gamete-filled structure (stolon), which detaches and swims to find a mate. Some stolons have eyes, antennae, and nervous system
The image shows female (left) and male (right) stolons which detach from their seafloor-dwelling 'parent' organism and swim to seek each other out.

@kashcah Yes, I feed the worms with food scraps throughout the year. Sometimes with well fermented pre-bokashi compost but mostly with normal food scraps. I just have the one worm box buried in the plot. It’s buried approx 45 cm/18” deep.
The box has no bottom just one centre brace. It is just four sides with a lid.
I harvest wormcast whenever I need some for the seedling mix or for making a wormcast extract or for adding to the growing beds.

I am not sure why I drew this exactly but don't you think worms are really good boys

We have a couple of thermal #compost bins, which generate a lot of #worms. But the worms like to move up to the rim of the bins and have — let's be honest — an orgy. Every time I open the bin, some of them get cut or crushed. It would be safer for them if they could have their fun lower down.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this just what worms normally do?
You’ve likely seen it before – an earthworm emerging on a sidewalk or road on a rainy day. Do come out from the safety of their soil to avoid drowning? Good guess, but worms don’t have lungs. So, what’s the explanation. @LiveScience has more:
