Serving long-distance express passengers on the East Coast Main Line, it was named after the journey between London King's Cross and #Edinburgh Waverley.

Retired from British Railways in 1963, this shoot was from when it was displayed at Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway, #Scotland.

A colour photo of the side of a magnificent steam locomotive facing right, it's livery painted in forest green with black and yellow detail. It's standing on siding rails, with a water tank behind it and a hazy blue sky beyond. There's a number displayed on the door of the driver's cab, 60103. There are three large black traction wheels connected by a bar, with the name "Flying Scotsman" displayed above the middle one on an arc-shaped plate. Smaller wheels are visible, two at the front and another two behind are in shot, the back two are beneath the coal wagon. The entire engine is gleaming clean and obviously cherished.

The crew of #NorthernPacificRailway No. 1562, a class W Mikado (2-8-2) taken by C.F. Buls in 1922 in #Missoula, #Montana.

The picture is from the collection of the #UniversityofMontana, Mansfield #Library, photo no. 90.2165 digitzed from a 2.5" x 3.25" negative.

A front-end view of a Northern Pacific W-class Mikado locomotive #1562 in the Missoula, Montana railyard in 1922. Trains of NP boxcars are on either side of the loco in the yard and a yardman is off to the right in the middle distance. Two white flags are beside the loco's marker lights. Steam is rising off the pistons and smoke is coming from the smokestack. Four men are standing in front of the locomotive. From left to right, the first man seems to be a brakeman, and is wearing dark overalls, and a long jacket, and a wide brim, open crown Montana hat. The next man seems to be the conductor, he is wearing a tall crown derby hat with an unreadable badge in front of it, and a vest with a watch chain leading down to a lower pocket. He is holding something flat. The next man appears to be the fireman, smoking a cigarette. He is wearing a cap with a leather visor, overalls, and long gloves. He is leaning against the loco's front coupler. The last man is the engineer. He has a cloth cap and overalls and a lighter colored coat. His left hand is resting on the front coupler and his right arm is akimbo. His gloves appear to be resting on the pilot behind.

The front of Northern Pacific Railway #1213, a class Y-3, 2-8-0 consolidation built at the Schenectady Works in 1901. There are 8 people pictured with the locomotive.

The engineer of #1213, presumedly, is up on the running board and leaning against the boiler. In front of him is seated a man wearing a protective outer garment. To his left, is sitting a boy with a cap. He's in front of the smoke box door just above the front coupler. His feet are resting on what appears to be a jacket. To his left side is a man, maybe his father, he has a beat-up hat on his head and his pants are held up by braces. Next is a man without a hat sitting up on the fireman-side running board, in his lap are heavy gloves.

On the footboards are three standing men. The two on the left are a stout man with a vest and pocket watch and a taller man with his arms crossed. On the other side is a man wearing a long, dark coat and a rounded hat with a wide brim turned up.
