It's not awful, just exceedingly disappointing. My ★★½ review of Death of a Unicorn (2025) on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/9kMSU1 #DeathOfAUnicorn #Horror #HorrorComedy #A24 #Letterboxd

"Horror-comedy", when done well, is the best genre of horror. You get the tension of horror with the release of comedy and, since it's still horror, you get fake-outs galore in both directions.
For examples:
Also everything by "Stuart Gordon" and the entire "Masters of Horror" series.
Horror-comedy is a really nice way to introduce someone to the horror genre.
They make great "date movies"!
The first horror movie I showed my future wife was "Candyman". Yes, she basically jumped in my lap (which was nice) but it did not endear her to the genre.
"An American Werewolf in London", however, left her sad about David's unearned fate and how Alex had to watch him die. Still debating over whether he recognized her or not; whether he was truly going to attack or if he was lunging on purpose so they would shoot him.
Both movies have a doomed love subplot, but one was accessible to her and one was definitely not.
Watching The Ghost and Mr Chicken with Don Knotts.
I love this movie.
Hey uh... looks like there's a bunch of new folks hopping on. Maybe it's time to spruce up the #introduction
