From the article: "On Tuesday, Montana’s House considered Senate Bill 164, legislation that would classify gender-affirming care for transgender youth as felony child endangerment. The bill would not only target doctors and nurses, but also parents—including those merely passing through the state. Though the vote was expected to be close, a powerful floor speech from Representative SJ Howell prompted a wave of Republican defections. The bill was defeated 40–58, becoming one of several anti-trans proposals to fail this year following strong speeches by Montana’s transgender and nonbinary lawmakers."

I am loathe to link to something on Substack, but given how little good news we read nowadays I wanted to share this one: 17 Montana Republicans Cross Party Lines, Defeat Anti-Trans Bill After Nonbinary Rep's Speech

Here's the first paragraph (which I split in half), so you don't need to click through:

Weather window today in advance of next winter system. Already starting to snow in town. Nice this morning hiking on Beartooth Highway from the closure, up to 2nd switchback. 2300-2500m then back. 1C or so, just lite W wind. Still good snowpack on the sides, but the road is not skiable, even the margins. Spring plowing up to the 3335m Beartooth Pass has begun, opening should be 23MAY 👍. We never miss that. #hiking #climate #dogs #mountains #montana #gye
