@jawarajabbi I think I would expand the ideal target participant for the #HandsOff protests to be anyone who feels they have some privilege. That would include a good number of brown people depending on the region of the country.

In San Jose, a city where government publications are produced in Vietnamese and is home to one of the four remaining Japantowns, I was expecting a few more people who looked like me there.

Being Asian-American, I’m regularly reminded of what it’s like to be “othered” but I also see lots of self-othering on the part of Asian people who tend to stay in their lane a little too much and fail to be counted by being too polite. There is a component of being American that is having poor depth perception when it comes to judging where your lane ends.

If you’re an American who has the privilege of seeing blurry shapes when you look down at the lines drawn around you, the call is for you and you need to be counted.

Margaret Sullivan says she asked friends and relatives in various locations what kind of reporing their local media did about the massive worldwide protests Saturday against Trump:

"Quick answer: Not close to what it deserved."

Then she did her own research, and found:

"In the Wall Street Journal, the story’s placement was the 20th most important."

I've been thinking a lot about the #handsoff #protest and its reception, especially in #nyc

There was an insane turnout of over 100k people there. But it seemed different from other marches for a few reasons:

- they had mandatory breaks to let traffic through at each street (everyone was frequently halted to prioritize non-emergency traffic)

- at the end of the march, staffers were telling everyone to "scatter and go home, the demonstration is over"

- 1/1000 LEO to demonstrator ratio

Sad I was on the road and unable to participate in the #HandsOff marches yesterday. If I had been in town, I'd probably have been inclined to do to the one I'd heard about at the country seat, 25 miles away. But I just now found out there was a small rally at my little town's city hall, which is literally about a block and a half away from my house. I am very bummed, but glad the locals turned out and made noise. Hopefully next time.
