Visited with students and gave slide talks two days ago- and pulled tubes with some very talented students yesterday. Gonna give another demo for UW glassblowing students today.

It's like my birthday came early with the tubes. Gonna make a video at some point to share the glassblowing fun- but Amber Mans an Skye Xollo were SO helpful, with Amber having blown glass since they were very young, and learning to pull tubes from my favorite tube puller in Tacoma.

I saw wonderful undergrad and graduate student work, seen here are Amber's "two truths and a lie" tubes covered in black glass powder and resist sandblasted through (I pulled some of that black/ brown). A studio visit with Morgan, a third year grad student was very neat- their ceramic and neon sculptures playing with texture, dementia, memory, and structure- integrating the neon and clay quite nicely.

I made my Mirror World class some bling out of 6mm glass tubulation. We can all laugh and be shiny together now. I actually didn't make myself one though. I guess I can make it tomorrow. I bent it to my handwriting in cursive with a 6mm sharpie :) . lol happened to be an easy an fun 3 letter phrase that flows nicely.

I sure do love mirroring a bunch of little tubes simultaneously :)

I gotta get a few feet of bright colored silicone or latex tubing. They are meant to be necklaces. They may be fragile during hugs.

Its been nice to teach these classes with Kacie Lees in the evenings and decompress from the hectic week finishing up neon work things ahead of an upcoming midwest road trip! Class and show in Minneapolis and visiting artist 2 day at UW, Madison.

We mirrored so much. Its so fun seeing people get it- and run wild with it.

Twenty years ago today I shot this clip of Troubled Hubble, one of the most fun bands of the liminal early 00s Chicago #indierock scene. They played #Madison a lot, but somehow I only managed to see them this one time, and six months later they broke up. Their frontman, Chris Otepka, has made a consistent name for himself releasing both solo and band material as The Heligoats (he'll show up here in a couple years), and TH has reunited a few times to play shows. Their final album, Making Beds in a Burning House, was one of my favorites in a jam-packed 2005.

Twenty years ago today I shot this clip of the Reputation, a sadly long-missed #altrock band from Chicago who came up to play in Madison quite often in the early 00s. Frontwoman Elizabeth Elmore (who also fronted Sarge) may be best known to the wider indie rock crowd for guesting on the Hold Steady's "Chillout Tent," but not long after she started law school and I think has been out of music since then.

Twenty years ago today I shot this clip of OK Go playing at the Annex in Madison. Their second album was still a few months away, and their first viral video a little further away than that, but they had adopted a fancy new look from the first time I saw them at Summerfest in 2002. Great set, and you could tell they really had something going.

There was a good turnout at the #50501Movement demonstration at the capitol square in #Madison today. Everyone was positive. The chants were all rejecting the excesses of the #Trump administration, not radical or hyper-partisan. The march stretched around 2 sides of the square. It felt like nearly 1000 people, listening to speeches and marching in 5F [-16C] weather.
The next demonstration is Sat, March 8.
