I'm not exactly sure why @gardiner_bryant praises #Gaming on #Linux - i'm on #KDEneon, and i can't even install plenty of my #Steam library - not even #DeusEx GOTY!

How are people playing #Cyberpunk2077 on the #SteamDeck, when there's no Linux install candidate/greyed out install button?

I might've missed a memo, but until i become aware of it, imma be dual-booting!

(I'm not impressed. 😉)

SOLUTION: Settings>Compatibility>Enable Steam Play

I can't install Chernobylite via Steam on Linux - no install candidate (greyed-out "Install" button)

🧵 5/n KDE is just as convenient as #Gnome; i can control / mute the #audio of a single #Firefox tab, then every subsequently opened tab will also be muted, even if the previously muted tab has been closed - that's a very desired behaviour!

👉 multi-tasking / multi-tabbing audio control 👍

edit: scenario - i'm listening to a talk-show/vod-cast, and don't want audio of other tabs, disturbing me. (requires setup - not complicated, mute the 1st, then it's "full-auto")

I haven't quite figured out how to move windows to another monitor, yet - multi-monitor setup, here.

Meta+Shift+Arrow_Right/Left works, for the portrait sidecar monitor …but not much else.

Tips are appreciated!
I'm noob-ish - just switched from #Ubuntu #Gnome.

Also, how friggen fancy is that; i can adjust the brightness of my monitors, by hovering over the "systray" icon and scroll the mouse wheel! 🥰 AMAZING! (proportions still need some work, but WOW!)

My multi-monitor layout (my serial numbers are none of your biz ;) - The Lenovo is the big primary 27-incher. The Fujitsu connects via USB-C/HDMI. The old Dell adapts DP/HDMI to DVI.

🧵 3/n apparently, Meta+W triggers the "Overview"!

*sigh* how lazy do i want to be, today? 😅 Is this "good enough"?

Meta+W is kind of a cumbersome "Affengriff", as we colloquially call it in German - [monkey gesture] - it's a bit inconvenient.

It seems, i can't open the "Start" menu via "hot corners" / "Screen Edges" - WHY? 😱

I might've over-estimated KDE, slightly - it's amazingly configurable, via GUI tools - but not exactly where it counts, yet. 😉

👉 accidentally, i've found out that Meta+Esc opens the system monitor
👉 the well-known Ctrl+W wörks almost no-where - it closes almost everything in #Gnome. I need to change …well, either the KDE shortcuts, or the Logitech mouse's DPI-Button macro
👉 the #NetworkManager GUI supports a "shipload" of nerdy stuff - no need for nmtui setting up bond0 🤩 👍
👉 there's a Qt variant of Transmission - it also supports seeding at 0bit/s 😉👍

No bragging, but solve-my-own situation here by creating KDE Migrant now kind of exploded into 37 people starring the repo just over the course of a week. I hope it serves them well. I deem the v2 to be as feature complete as needed, but maybe somebody will find some bug or an edge case.

I've recently acquired a spare 256G NVMe SSD, for testing.

Y'know what, i might as well jump right in - into "the cold water" - and try and #game on this thing! (A #Minisforum #UM780XTX mini PC. [Radeon 780M/RDNA3/12CUs])

I'll be happy, if i can get away with #Steam and #Proton, without installing #Windows11.

Yeah, eschewing dual-boot, sounds like an enticing idea.

Pomyślałem, że przegrzałem, spaliłem kość, ale jakoś tak dziwnie? Nie padła cała?
Śledztwo wykazało że nowy kernel wjechał.
Bootuję ze starym.
Dalej 1GB.
Wywalam parametry kernela, które ze 3 lata temu musiałem dodać do jajka, żeby dobrze działał na tej platformie hw (Dell 7390).
Po reboot 16GB wraca.
Amba albo burza na słońcu.

Held a stall for the Perth #linux Users Group (PLUG) in Geraldton. Modest little setup, but I figure it's a good way to show people that you do have a choice of software when it comes to your computer.

The devices I showed off were rescued from the recycling centre. An old HP school laptop running XFCE + @linuxmint, a snazzy elitebook running #kdeneon and an old surface pro 2 taking advantage of its touchscreen with a #gnome interface.
Has anyone run stalls like this for Linux before? LMK!

#Windows10 end of life is coming in #2025 and that means you have to hope your machine can run #Windows11, buy a new computer, or try something different -- like Linux.

Linux shouldn't be considered a last-choice alternative, either, because it's every bit equal to Windows or #MacOS. It's reliable, secure, user-friendly, and free. What more do you want?
