I see so many folks with IT backgrounds getting laid off.

I advise getting into CAD and/or solar energy system design.

This can be done remotely just like coding or web dev, but your career is much less at risk of being killed from outsourcing or AI...in fact, renewables are growing worldwide despite the BS in the USA right now.

For the past year I have been working on the GOV.UK citizen facing services for elections. Such as the website for "Register to vote" and "Apply for a postal vote". Moat recent work is investigating changes required for "Votes at 16". I've learnt so much about our democratic processes.
I'm now saying goodbye to elections and moving on.
I'll miss my colleagues but excited for a new project.
