📢 Check out our new PID icons!

We've created a set of icons to visually represent Persistent Identifiers (#PIDs) and their use cases—from datasets and software to researchers and grants!

💫 Improving data discoverability, facilitating visual analysis, and promoting a more unified understanding of research information.

➡️ Check out the full collection and and carry it into the world!

🚀 University collections hold treasures from countless disciplines. But many collection staff members lack the Data Literacy skills they need. Because there's often no tailored Research Data Management training available for them.

🎯With the SODa-OER-Cookbook, we offer Open Educational Resources designed specifically for university collections.

It is the last day of the exhibition at DPG spring meeting in Goettingen #DPGGOE25 today - even though the conference continues until Friday.

So come around during the lunch or coffee break ☕ and get in touch with our colleagues from PUNCH4NFDI to discuss #FAIRdata and reseach data management #rdm 🗨️

We would like to congratulate the Rat für Informationsinfrastrukturen (#RfII) on its 10th anniversary! 🎉 🎂 Yesterday, this special birthday was celebrated in Berlin.

ℹ️ The history of #NFDI began with the RfII: In 2016, the Council formulated the need for a coordinated research data infrastructure for Germany. The recommendation paper ‘Performance from Diversity’ ("Leistung aus Vielfalt") can be regarded as the conceptual birth of NFDI.

File format building blocks: primitives in digital preservation

by @beet_keeper

A primitive in software development can be described as:

a fundamental data type or code that can be used to build more complex software programs or interfaces.

– via capterra.com/glossary/primitiv (also Wiki: language primitives)

Like bricks and mortar in the building industry, or oil and acrylic for a painter, a primitive helps a software developer to create increasingly more complex software, from your shell scripts, to entire digital preservation systems.

Primitives also help us to create file formats, as we’ve seen with the Eyeglass example I have presented previously, the file format is at its most fundamental level a representation of a data structure as a binary stream, that can be read out of the data structure onto disk, and likewise from disk to a data structure from code.

For the file format developer we have at our disposal all of the primitives that the software developer has, and like them, we also have “file formats” (as we tend to understand them in digital preservation terms) that serve as our primitives as well.

#whyNFDI? To unlock the power of high-dimensional microscopy data. 🔬

#Microscopy is one of the cutting-edge technologies in research. We need new ways to unlock the potential of the highly complex data generated in this process.

@nfdi4bioimage sets new standards for sharing and re-utilising this data. With developers worldwide, a new file format is being created and the associated metadata is also being structured and preserved.

🌍Meanwhile in Karlsruhe...
Yesterday, our colleague Hossein Beygi Nasrabadi from the @fizise presented a joint paper at Hashtag#SEconf25 at @KIT_Karlsruhe.

🎓Hossein presented "The NFDIcore Ontology and Related Modular Domain Ontologies", a joint work of himself along with our colleagues @tabea, @sashabruns, Etienne Posthumus, Jörg Waitelonis, @lysander07 Sack and others.
