Step 1 of my "Epic 2025 Cloud Exodus Saga" is complete.

I have a personal cloud. It's that thing right there.

Safely at home behind a NAT but reachable over Tailscale for SMB shares and a reverse proxy on an Oracle VPS for NextCloud.

This was hell. I can't believe I actually made it work.

so once i re-learned a bunch of Unix / Linux user things to allow for actually downloading the cert over FTP.... the #YUNOHost local install is working.

The questions are now: what will i move from the #OpenMediaVault and what will i keep. Calibre-Web and Vaultwarden will move, they, and their cert issues, are the reason I set this up.

YUNOHost doesn't have Plex though, and that may be an issue.

#selfHost

#homelab update!

Spent all of last night and a good chunk of today combining my compute and storage servers into a single machine! Will I regret this? Maybe. Is it cool as hell? Absolutely!

Using #proxmox as my host OS. Currently setting it up, and I can tell that it’ll be awesome, but it’s definitely got a learning curve. Currently setting up #openmediavault in a #virtualmachine and passing through my hard drives in a RAID. I will report back 🫡

Also installiere ich neu.
Man gönnt sich ja sonst nix!

Running a NAS with Docker has actually put me off using proprietary phone apps. I do a lot of planning and writing, watch a lot of TV, and I keep home recipes too; so I have distinct apps for each one of those. The problem is that all these apps feel temporary!

I've used so many services that have shut down over the years, forcing me to migrate or start from scratch every so often. There's no sense of permanence any more. Netflix picks up and dumps my favourite 90s shows like hot potatoes.

But, with open source software on my NAS, I don't have that problem. All the data is stored in expected standards, like text files, and if the developer stops working on it, I still have my active version for as long as I want. Jellyfin is mine! I can maintain it for as long as I want, and I've saved my DVDs from bit rot by ripping them as MP4 files that run on everything.

My next quest is to find some self hosting novel software! #opensource #openmediavault #docker #raspberrypi #jellyfin
