Falls jemand meine 5ct zum #Koalitionsvertrag hören will:

Case in point: same #lobbies that want to label #blueH2 as clean, use the #deregulation 🚌 #Omnibus laws to roll back hard-won climate protections, such as the EU’s 2024 Methane Regulation.

⚠️ This could open the door for continued imports of highly polluting #LNG from fracked gas in the US

Label #BlueH2 as 'clean’ means billions in new subsidies 4 #fossilfuel projects that exacerbate the #ClimateCrisis

⛔no to #False Solutions such as #CCS and #H2

Continued thread

#BlueHydrogen is fossil-based, with CO2 captured w/ #CCS

Research shows that #blueH2 total ghg footprint can be 20% or even 50% worse 4 the planet than burning gas directly.

Fossil fuel lobbyists have for years lobbied to label #blueH2 as low carbon or clean.

"For most countries around the world, sourcing energy entirely from wind, solar, geothermal, and hydropower by 2050 would reduce their #energy needs and costs, improve air quality, and help slow climate change, according to a study.

These benefits, the authors say, could be realized at a fraction of the cost of implementing technologies that remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and capture it from stationary emitters like industrial smokestacks."

🪤 A Compact Review of Current Technologies for Carbon Capture as Well as Storing and Utilizing the Captured CO2

mdpi.com/2227-9717/13/1/283

MDPIA Compact Review of Current Technologies for Carbon Capture as Well as Storing and Utilizing the Captured CO2With the consequences of climate change becoming more urgent, there has never been a more pressing need for technologies that can help to reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the most polluting sectors, such as power generation, steel, cement, and the chemical industry. This review summarizes the state-of-the-art technologies for carbon capture, for instance, post-combustion, pre-combustion, oxy-fuel combustion, chemical looping, and direct air capture. Moreover, already established carbon capture technologies, such as absorption, adsorption, and membrane-based separation, and emerging technologies like calcium looping or cryogenic separation are presented. Beyond carbon capture technologies, this review also discusses how captured CO2 can be securely stored (CCS) physically in deep saline aquifers or depleted gas and oil reservoirs, stored chemically via mineralization, or used in enhanced oil recovery. The concept of utilizing the captured CO2 (CCU) for producing value-added products, including formic acid, methanol, urea, or methane, towards a circular carbon economy will also be shortly discussed. Real-life applications, e.g., already pilot-scale continuous methane (CH4) production from flue gas CO2, are shown. Actual deployment of the most crucial technologies for the future will be explored in real-life applications. This review aims to provide a compact view of the most crucial technologies that should be considered when choosing to capture, store, or convert CO2, informing future researchers with efforts aimed at mitigating CO2 emissions and tackling the climate crisis.

"After a surge of planned projects in the late 2000s and early 2010s failed to turn into operational carbon capture sites, there was a lull. But since 2020, the volume of planned #CCS has increased very significantly.

The pipeline for CCS has been surging for a half-decade now, and the amount of operational CCS has only grown by a few megatonnes of capacity. We were promised a CCS revolution, and we aren’t getting one."

"The EPA is reassessing more than 100 pending permit applications for injection wells after an underground #CarbonCapture and storage reservoir in #Decatur, Illinois — owned and operated by agribusiness giant Archer-Daniels-Midland — leaked nearly 8,000 metric tons of liquid carbon into the rock formation above."

#UK #ClimateChange #CarbonCapture #CCS #FossilFuels #GasEmissions #GlobalWarming: "This will be Keir Starmer’s HS2: a hugely expensive scheme that will either be abandoned, scaled back or require massive extra funding to continue, after many billions have been spent. The government’s plan for carbon capture and storage (CCS) – catching carbon dioxide from major industry and pumping it into rocks under the North Sea – is a fossil fuel-driven boondoggle that will accelerate climate breakdown. Its ticket price of £21.7bn is just the beginning of a phenomenal fiscal nightmare.

There might be a case for a CCS programme if the following conditions were met. First, that the money for cheaper and more effective projects had already been committed. The opposite has happened. Labour slashed its green prosperity plan from £28bn a year to £15bn, and with it a sensible and rational programme for insulating 19m homes.

The government boasts that its CCS scheme will be “the equivalent of taking around 4m cars off the road”. But at far lower cost, through a rational transport policy, it could remove millions of real cars from the roads, while improving our mobility, cutting air pollution and releasing land for green spaces and housing.

It could also launch a programme for the mass restoration of nature in the UK. The rewilding of land and sea would draw down vast amounts of carbon from the atmosphere while simultaneously reversing our ecological catastrophe. All these are cost-effective ways of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. And all of them, unlike CCS, have “co-benefits”: they achieve more than one good thing."

It leaks.
It's been operating for just a few years, and the site is supposed to store the carbon for centuries.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found multiple Safe Drinking Water Act violations at the nation’s first carbon capture and sequestration (#CCS) storage project.

The #Decatur, IL, project, run by Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM), violated rules meant to protect against leaks of captured carbon."
