Was ist xfce4?

#Xfce ist ein lightweight desktop environment - eine leichtgewichtige Desktopumgebung.

Der Anwender findet ein Menü mit Anwendungen in unserem Beispiel oben links. In der Leiste oben werden auf der rechten Seite die virtuellen Desktops angezeigt. Mit virtuellen Desktops lassen sich Fenster (Anwendungen) auf verschiedene Desktops verteilen.

Die Leisten lassen sich beliebig mit weiteren Elementen erweitern: Uhr, Starter, Wetterbericht,..

Lately every day when I came back to my rightside Pi4 running xfce4 I had like a thousand display settings windows stacked.

The issue was what described at the bottom here (an option to show them each time a new screen appears).

Just disabled the option. Now why it doesn't reuse the same window instead of reusing is beyond me. Maybe it thinks it's a new display each time it is turned off & on ?

today has been the first time in roughly a decade that I've installed #GNOME which I did to test how well it works with #Wayland on my setup. And although it's quite a different and very new experience for me as a long time #Xfce4 user, I think it's not as bad as I thought ... it feels less loaded then (dare I say it?!) Plasma, for example. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

As for Wayland, it just works with my #RX580 which is very good to know.

Oh, and speaking of Xfce4 - I tried that with Wayland as well and it works, but there are still a few things left to be done, e.g. the mouse and keyobard setup didn't work (no setup dialog showed up) and there was no desktop background being shown, despite having selected a default image.

💜 Is this the dawn of a new era? 💜

A day of testing FreeBSD as a potential daily driver.

Spoiler alert: I don't think I'm confident about a complete switch. Those who know me know I'm slow as hell, and it'll take time. But running a day under FreeBSD proves that it's possible for my workloads. And the first step has been done.

Ontem, dei mais um passo nesta minha jornada no mundo Linux.

Depois de passar pelo Mint (2-3 meses), Pop!_OS (2 anos) e uma tentativa desastrosa com o EnveauvourOS (1 dia), resolvi migrar para o Debian 12, com XFCE 4 +i3wm.

As primeiras impressões foram boas, o sistema parece fazer jus à fama de ser bem estável.

Sobretudo, acho que deve ser a melhor distro para uma máquina velha como a minha, com 12 anos de idade.

Dando tudo certo, espero ficar com esta distro pelo menos até 2026.
