I cannot use my music studio kit with Linux. All these brands are in deep with Microsoft and Apple.

I cant edit/update the Helix. I cant use Ableton. I cant use my Zoom stuff. RME.

People like me have been asking brands for over 10 years to just give us the option. None except Reaper seem to have listened.

I really think Linux Foundation or a collaboration between distros and DEs should create some website and materials to try and capture the attention of people who don't like Win 11 or just don't want to throw away a perfectly fine PC and buy a new one – and try and help them migrate to Linux

Rising tide lifts all boats, the competition between players should be set aside for the goal of helping as many as possible get to Linux now with EOL for Win10. A unique opportunity!

Wenn #Win10 abgestellt werden soll, überlege ich, ob ich einen #linuxumstieg für meine Eltern (beide 80) wagen soll.
Die beiden sind eigentlich relativ fit, aber inzwischen alt und damit schwindet das Können und die Flexibilität. Für sie ist Office wichtig (und ja, sie sind an Office Ribbons gewöhnt) und zudem benötigen sie zwei spezielle Windowsprogramme.
Der #distrochooser empfiehlt drei Distros, außerdem habe ich mal von #wubuntu bzw. #winux gelesen.
Welche empfehlt ihr und warum?

I just installed Windows 10 Home on a device. I never realized how crappy #Windows has become in my opinion.

My first mistake was connecting it to the internet in the setup wizard, as it then tried to force me to create and sign into a #Microsoft account. I then researched this, but none of the #Win11 tricks worked on #Win10.

I managed to disconnect from the WLAN again by opening the command line (Shift + F10) and typing "netsh wlan disconnect". Afterwards I could create an offline account.

Doschauher, im Standard schreiben sie sowas? Linux scheint jetzt endlich mal in der Masse anzukommen. Ich arbeitete darauf seit Jahrzehnten.

Moin, ich bin #Linux User und somit in meiner Tech Blase mehr oder weniger drin. Was macht eigentlich der Standard User im Oktober 2025, wenn #win10 ausläuft? Oder sind alle mit win11 zufrieden?

So, people say #linux is bad at handling multi #monitor setups, #windows does it much better. That's simply a lie. a) Linux got much better at it b) Windows got much worse at it. With my 2x4k monitors on #win10 laptop I get:
- One or both monitors not turning on, only laptop screen.
- One display being rendered on one half of the second one.
- Irratic blinking or static on the second monitor
- Resolution of the second monitor stuck at potato
- Display configuration resets

No problems on Linux.

Me be trying, hoping, wishing, to persuade dad to let me finally convert his win10 pc to Linux [+ a permanently offline win10 VM for his proprietary pgms that ofc do not run in Linux, & for which he won't or can't let me convert him to FOSS equivalents], instead of doing the feared upgrade to win11, sometime in the coming months.

I've not had time yet to read all these, but so many of the links here seem to portray win11 as total tripe & hideous horror... which IMO would be some achievement given i loathed win10 from the start, so if 11 is actually even worse than 10, then... OMZ

.oO(#win32 and #win98 are REALLY testing my patience here. #DOStodon works fine with the win32-port of #DOjS on #Win10, but #SQLite3 and #Curl fail on #Win98)

Up to now I have always had a #Win7/10 box on my workbench for everything #embedded. I wanted an alternative to my workstation, in case I fry something. Right now it is a refurbished i3 for 60eur. #Win11 will not run on that thing, but I won't throw a perfectly good computer away when #win10 support ends.

So I checked if all my HW/SW I usually need has a #Linux alternativ and guess what: The only thing I have not found a replacement for is my feel-good #Git client Sourcetree
