It’s actually really good advice. At least I think, based on what I know of my goth friends.

... the little kitchen was open and bright, definitely where people gathered. Mostly my cousins, aunt and uncle. It smelled like coffee and always had the scanner beeping with police chatter. Idk if this was normal for the town or state, but sorry, Ohio, i think everyone there listens to a police scanner now.
