The #cocktail of the night is a 50/50 - 50% dry vermouth (in our case, Dolin) and 50% gin (Beefeater). We are extra, extra, extra dry martini drinkers. I pour the vermouth into the shaker with ice, strain it out, and then add the gin (shaken, not stirred). So, this was an interesting experiment. I added a bit more gin, but still pleasant.
CHOCOLATE STOUT OLD FASHIONED
3 dashes walnut bitters
½ oz chocolate stout syrup
2 oz Black Blended Rum ❺
Glassware: Old-fashioned
Method: Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with cracked ice and stir. Strain over a large rock with no garnish.
This is my twist on the original from High Proof Preacher on IG a few days ago. I started out with Sazerac rye (in bg of second pic), but ultimately I settled on a totally different base spirit, black blended rum (pouring pic), since it has toasty dark notes that complement the beer so well. I also did some black walnut bitters, trying to lean away from your typical orange vibe in an OF.
For my stout syrup I used Northern Monk Patrons Projects 43.02 — Dunked Chocolate Digestive Decadent Stout.
