I remember seeing the Horsehead nebula in my parents’ encyclopedia as a kid. I was amazed at how such a thing could exist. And now technologyy has evolved so far, that I can take the same picture from my own backyard! M104 is my favourite galaxy!
So very photogenic with its distinct dust lane around the central bulge of stars, hanging in space like a small pendant - or a Sombrero apparently. In fact it’s composed of several hundred billion individual stars and is estimated at a diameter of 50.000 lightyears so the only reason for it appearing small is its mind-melting distance of 28 million lightyears (meaning that the fastest thing in the universe - light - has travelled for 28 million years before it hit my telescope in my backyard. #M104 #sombrerogalaxy #astronomy #astrophotography #deepsky #backyardastronomy #astroshots #astrophoto #Space #universe #galaxy #universetoday #nightsky #stars #galaxy #nightphotography #skywatcher #touptek #backyardastrophotography
