Yesterday I started a new project: a textile #scrollBook, something like an #artBook as a #scroll.
The photo shows my work to find a collage composition. When I'm satisfied with that sample, I'll fix the pieces with wild #embroidery. Later I'll "write" with #stitches. More info: alt text!

Great art book finds at a recent fleamarket trip to Hyvinkää, a small-ish town with a huge-ish fleamarket, Villatehtaan kellari. Easy to reach via train. Warmly recommended! Hot tip: there is also a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant (Sao Viet) near the flea market.

Voici une image pour mon prochain livre avec ma copilote d'amour qui a écrit les textes pour chaque illustration. Cela fait deux ans que je travaille dessus, et je suis très heureux de pouvoir partager les premières images de ce projet qui portera sur les animaux et l'évolution.

Sur la table de travail , des pages d'un livre en préparation. Il devrait s'appeler "Bleu d'enfance". Il compte quatorze pages de trois volets. Le texte est en cours d'écriture.

Vergelijking van de varianten van The Art of Andreas

Toen Sherpa aanvankelijk “The Art of Andreas” aankondigde, werden er 9 (!) varianten verwacht: drie voor de drie talen Frans, Nederlands en Engels.

Het ging om een normale editie, een luxe-editie, en een superdeluxe editie.

Maar de onderhandelingen tussen de verschillende uitgevers sleepten maar aan. Wij vermoedden dat het vooral met de Engelse uitgave stroef verliep, maar dat schijnt niet te kloppen.

Uiteindelijk werd uitgeverij Sherpa het wachten moe, en besloten ze het heft in eigen handen te menen.

Daardoor werd al vroeg een volledige vertaling van de teksten in het Engels ter beschikking gesteld. Wie het bestand downloadde,  kon het zelf uitprinten op vier bladzijden, of eventueel naar een kopiedienst gaan om het op aan A3-pagina te laten afdrukken, en het netjes gevouwen in het boek te steken.

De boeken waren er nog niet, maar het was in elk geval een bewijs dat de teksten er wel al waren, en dat de definitieve uitgave naderbij kwam.

Toen de boeken uiteindelijk beschikbaar waren, ging het dus om twee reeksen: een Franse en een Nederlandse. Met de downloadbare Engelse vertaling konden de Engelstaligen zich behelpen. Als artbook is het in de eerste plaats een kijkboek, zodat het niet erg belangrijk is dat er geen specifieke Engelse uitgave is. 

De Nederlandse reeks was niet zomaar een kopie van de Franse. In totaal blijken er, los van de taalversies, drie varianten te zijn. Er zijn nog altijd de oude standaardversie, een luxeversie en een superdeluxeversie, maar de varianten zijn niet voor elke taal dezelfde.

Voor het Nederlands zijn er de standaard- en luxeversie, voor het Frans de standaard- en superdeluxeversie.

Alle luxeversies hebben een extra gesigneerde piëzografie, terwijl de superdeluxe bovendien met linnen rug is gebonden.

Concreet: de duurste versie is de Franse “édition deluxe”, die wordt beperkt tot 250 exemplaren, is gebonden met een linnen rug, en een groot gesigneerd ex libris bevat. Die kost bij verschijnen 125 euro.

De Franse standaardversie kost maar 55 euro en is net als alle andere varianten op groot formaat. Er is echter nergens vermeld of die versie een beperkte oplage heeft.

De Nederlandse standaardversie is gelijk aan de Franse, en kost dus ook 55 euro. Ook daarover wordt niet gezegd of de oplage gelimiteerd is.

De duurste Nederlandse editie heet de “ultra limited collectors edition” en kost 99 euro. Ze is beperkt tot 99 exemplaren, en bevat een gesigneerde piëzografie.  Die piëzografie is wat in de Franse editie het gesigneerd ex libris wordt genoemd.
