"About a year ago Elon Musk tweeted ... that many years ago Wired somehow went from being about technology to being an unreadable far left wing propaganda mouthpiece."

Translation: Wired went from being an propaganda mouthpiece for whatever tech was being produced by corporations and VC-funded startups to doing somewhat uncritical reporting on the political-economic consequences of how that technology.

Today, my list of Digital Services Providers, outside US Jurisdiction, was featured in Wired Magazine.

Access to public documents is more important than ever, with government websites and records disappearing. Wired's global editorial director explains why her publication has removed paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Read it at the Freedom of the Press Foundation. #Paywall #FOIA #DOGE #Trump #ElonMusk #Journalism #Wired #Tech #Technology flip.it/b4nT.0

Freedom of the PressWired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should followAs the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

Reading an infographic in the latest issue of #WIRED magazine that refers to Elon Musk as "humanity’s wealthiest reply guy" and also as "Tex Luthor".

I subscribed to their print edition to support their reporting on #DOGE et al and I am not disappointed.

Nice work Elana Klein & Anthony Lydgate.

OK #NerdHiveMind, has anyone ever figured out how to access / create a #CondeNast account when you signed up for a #Wired digital-only subscription? I can log into the Wired site with the creds I set up initially, but trying to access / change account details pushes you to the CN site

the CN portal doesn’t accept my Wired creds, instead it insists that I must enter the account number printed on the label of the magazine that they ship to me 🤪 & every avenue of contact I’ve tried either bounces or seems to go to /dev/null… 😩

I’ve been trying for months to change my email address associated with the subs, but now I’m just over it & want to cancel before it auto-renews at 5x the intro 1-year price 😕

New from #wired who have been doing great reporting on #Musk:

#DOGE Is Working on Software That Automates the Firing of Government Workers

Operatives working for #ElonMusk’s #DOGE appear to be editing the code of #AutoRIF – software designed by the #Defense Dept that could assist in mass #firings of #FederalWorkers, sources tell WIRED.

WIRED · DOGE Is Working on Software That Automates the Firing of Government WorkersBy Makena Kelly

This sickens me for various probably-predictable reasons I may still write about later, but for now I'm just referencing the facts presently known.

«The Washington Post, citing two unnamed people, reported representatives from DOGE were using AI through Microsoft’s Azure service to go through data with “personally identifiable information for people who manage grants, as well as sensitive internal financial data”»

Source: forbes.com/sites/mollybohannon

«Elon Musk's DOGE is working on a custom chatbot called GSAi. The chatbot is part of Elon Musk and President Donald Trump's ambitions to use AI and other technologies to cut costs and modernize the US government.»
