Linux Is Best<p><span>I removed, OVH from my list of recommended providers.<br><br>Why?<br><br>OVH previously only resold servers in the United States, with their datacenters and business offices overseas in France. Today, OVH is under direct Us Jurisdiction, even redirecting their traffic to their American site us.ovhcloud.com and their terms of services outline an address in the USA, plus they're hiring for their own datacenter in the USA, and lastly in the footer of the website it now reads, "Copyright ©2025 OVH US LLC"<br><br></span><a href="https://mk.absturztau.be/tags/Ovh" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Ovh</a> <a href="https://mk.absturztau.be/tags/WebHosting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WebHosting</a> <a href="https://mk.absturztau.be/tags/OvhCloud" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OvhCloud</a> <a href="https://mk.absturztau.be/tags/UsJurisdiction" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#UsJurisdiction</a></p>

I have a growing list of Fedi sites, who use domain extensions, outside the jurisdiction of the United States.

https://codeberg.org/Linux-Is-Best/The_Fediverse_Outside_United_States

I've not verified where they're hosted, but at least they're not using Dot Com, Net, Org, Info, Us, or Edu. Nor are they using word-based domain name, for example, Dot Social, which are managed by US Corporations.

Microsoft and the United States Government have a working partnership. You should consider try using Linux.

For a newbie, I would suggest Ultramarine Linux (KDE Plasma) or MX Linux (KDE Plasma). But ultimately, your goal should be to try using Linux.

If you need to keep a copy of Windows for gaming, that's fine. But still try using Linux too.

People really hate being wrong. Or perhaps, it is they dislike learning their choice, has turned bad, to no fault of their own. But denial should not be the outcome of facts.

The company you're using is in France or Germany or wherever, and along comes an American company who buys them out. That means, that company now falls under US-jurisdiction. Or perhaps they do not buy them out completely, but become the majority owner, and now sit on the board of directors. You may not like it, but that still means US-jurisdiction applies.

Or perhaps you believe, because they made a personal agreement not to interfere, despite being the primary owner, that somehow that is different. The government is not going to care about a personal arrangement, because the fact is, the ownership or majority of the ownership is now, American, by US Law.

You can be mad about it. You can claim how unfair that is. How much you dislike it. But it does not change the facts.

Continued thread

Here is an updated copy of my list (January 25, 2025) of service providers outside the United States jurisdiction. 😉

Naturally, making this list is not easy. These are two types of companies I avoided in making my list.

1) Those who actually fall under US-jurisdiction because they are based or owned by a company in the USA.

More than often, I will stumble over a company that appears to be outside the USA, but later find they are owned by another corporation based inside the USA, and so they do fall under US-jurisdiction.

2) Those who voluntarily give up their sovereignty to the United States. The 2nd type, who voluntarily gives up their sovereignty in the way of US jurisdiction, have whole sections of their terms concerning US Laws and US based customers. If a fascist government says jump, these people will ask, how high?!

I encourage people to scrutinize my list. The old saying, "trust, but verify", is something I believe in.
