#Windows, sometimes you do the dumbest shit. I just found that it had put the #swap file on the torrent server onto one of the HDDs, instead of the EMPTY #SSD sitting there. Thankfully, I can move it manually. Now I know why it was so damn slow

An NVMe drive is giving me 700% faster performance than my previous SATA SSD drive

I just upgraded my main boot drive on my Linux desktop, from a 120 GB SATA SSD drive to a 500 GB NVMe SSD drive. Whilst it is true the Crucial CT120BX100SSD1 SSD was not the fastest SSD around, it shows a rating of max of 6Gb/s through the SATA inte ...continues

An SSD docking station is a great idea to easily utilise replaced SSSD drives

This is an interesting idea to use those SSD drives that you may have upgraded, because if an SSD drive is left for too many months without being plugged in, it can lose its data.

This is an easy way to plug one or more in and use it for ad-hoc s ...continues

That said GNOME should support the XDG-Decoration Wayland spec and allow GTK 4/LibAdwaita apps to go undecorated on compositors designed for server-side decorations. 🔥 :blobfoxdab: 🔥 Not supporting it means that undecorated windows on GNOME look horrendous while GTK apps on SSD platforms look even worse. I love CSD's but this obstinate refusal for any kind of SSD support is making everyone's lives worse.

Friends of #Linux and #SSD, I need some help. Lately I see this message when starting the PC.

/dev/mapper/vgxubuntu-root: clean, 1234690/31162368 files, 20877357/124644352 bl [ [ 3.625248] EXT4-fs (nvme0n1p1): VFS: Can’t find ext4 filesystem

The failing device is the new 1TB SSD on PCI I installed last week. After switching the PC off and on, it boots just fine. Does anyone have a clue what's going wrong here? (journalctl shows me things but that means nothing.

Apparently #consumergrade #SSDs do not actually do anything to make their volatile write-cache safe.

What kind of asshole decided this was a good idea? Fucking infrastructural privilege assumptions.

As it turns out, yes, a *lot* of consumergrade SSDs will lose flushed data on a power outage.

So that means unless one has the privilege to be able to afford a UPS or enterprise SSDs, one otherwise has to disable the cache (promptly getting rid of most of the performance).

Hardware designers, much like software designers, should be required to live in underprivileged shitholes before releasing anything intended for wide public use.
