#til that #inkscape saves #text #metadata even if you convert it to a path. So there is content, font, size, spacings,… still in the #xml 🚀

This is great, if you forgot to save a duplicate before converting it to a path.

Now I wonder, if there is a simple procedure to convert a path with metadata to a text object again - or at least #restore a text-like object from the information stored?

OMFG do NOT lose control of the account that your macOS machine has Activation Lock tied to.

Kid’s 2016 MacBook Pro had some unrepairable disk errors and recurrent crashing. Went to Recovery Mode which accepted his _current_ AppleID to login to reformat the drive and recover from a backup.

But of course the Backup has the original Activation Lock and account. So for whatever reason it absolutely would not make it all the way through a boot up after a full restore.

Tried that a couple different ways and likely full borked the on-disk OS. Somehow got a 171GB “Update” partition that wouldn’t go away.

Along the way managed to get the machine removed from Find My in the current Apple account.

Then back to recovery mode, full erase and repartition disk. Recover over internet, install Sequoia from zero, and now using Migration Assistant from backup to bring everything back together.

Fingers crossed that by morning it’s all happy again.

I’m sure I fucked up somewhere early in the process…quite the adventure. At least we know someone who steals the machine would be S.O.L….

Ok, das einzige, was beim #backup #restore des #HomeAssistant vor 2 Monaten nicht wiederhergestellt wurde, war die Verbindung zum Backup-Netzlaufwerk und die Backups wurden still lokal auf der SD-Karte gespeichert, was dann vermutlich zum Crash selbiger beigetragen hat. D.H. mein neuestes Backup ist vor dem letzten Restore. 😭

Ich hoffe, ich krieg die gecrashte SD-Card nochmal irgendwie gemountet. Grad kein Linux in Griffweite. Windows-Tools für ext4 sehen schonmal keine ext4-Partition. 😟

I work as a #sysadmin and whilst this may not sound exciting, it's kinda necessary, as one's the #janitor, #cleaner, garbage collector, #maid and #librarian together.

So yeah, #documentation, #backup & #restore ain't exciting but they need to fucking work, so in the worst case one can just follow the checklist of instructions.

  • It's like firefighting: You learn, train and stay prepared so that there ain't casualties at all...
