This week's #MythologyMonday theme is time. The personification of time in #GreekMythology is Chronos (Χρονος), not to be confused with Kronos (Κρονος), the dad of Zeus and his siblings. The conflation of the two occurred in antiquity but became more widespread during the Renaissance, which is why Father Time wields the harvesting scythe of Kronos in modern iconography. In Orphism he is a two-sexed deity born from Hydros (water) and Gaia (earth).
Many profane rituals have to be done at the midnight hour.

#MythologyMonday: Nera went back from the elven mound of Crúachan to the royal hall of Connacht and successfully warned King Ailill and Queen Medb. The fact that he was able to produce summer herbs in winter not only proved the truth of his words, but also that he had travelled back in time. Incidentally, Nera went back to his lover in the Sidhe.` #Celtic

#MythologyMonday: Time in the #Celtic #Otherworld is progressing much slower than with us. For #Oisín it turned out that three years in Tír na nÓg was equal to three hundred years in our world.
A time traveling tale from Japan
A giant turtle approached Urashima.
“You saved the Dragon King’s daughter. She would have your company in her father’s palace.”
The turtle then beckoned Urashima to ride on his back.

In myths from Japan to Ireland, traveling in the Otherworld makes time pass differently, and upon your return, not only will you recognize no one, but time will catch up with you if you try to join the land of the living. #MythologyMonday
#MythologyMonday: #Tuan mac Cairill lived 100 years as a human, 300 as a wild ox/deer, 200 as a wild stallion/boar, 3000 as a bird of prey, 100 years as a salm, which Queen Muiredach Muinderg ate, giving birth to Tuan again. #Celtic

Thoth was an Egyptian moon god. The moon's phases made it pivotal in early astrology / astronomy, and its cycles organized much of Egyptian society's rituals and events. Thus, Thoth became seen as a god of wisdom, and of the measurement and regulation of events and time.
