Bvlbancha Public Access is pleased to announce that we have received a $50,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation Humanities in Place program.

In late 2024, the Foundation reached out to our team and requested that we submit an application to continue Bvlbancha Public Access’ mission of platforming Indigenous Gulf South voices. We are honored that the work of uplifting our community of collaborating artists and leaders compelled national support. Our proposal, “Equitable Recursion,” shores up existing programming of the Indigenous Gulf Stream biennial, and grows our work within art-centered convenings, publications, and equitable intellectual property interactions.

This grant makes the 2025 Indigenous Gulf Stream possible and allows our organization the leeway to push further into joyful and innovative media.

The Nu Alliance Project, a partnership of Bvlbancha Public Access, Dillard University, and the The New Orleans Foundation for Francophone Culture, invites you to an free public evening celebration of the aesthetics and iconography of Indigenous and African cultures on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2025.

The project underscores the intricate relationships among Native American, and African-descended peoples in Louisiana. Through storytelling, art, and exchange, the Nu Alliance Project aims to transform cultural divides into bridges, honoring Black and Native heritage. The Wolof word ñu, meaning “we," and the ‘Uma word núah, meaning "to walk," aligns with the cultural interweaving born from forced migrations and shared histories of racism/colonialism. “Pattern Recognition,” seeks to create a transformative space where “we walk together.”

Happy Native American Heritage Month!

To celebrate, we have uploaded and released 9 of Dr. Tammy Greer's 2022 Library of Congress Community Collection project interviews that we featured on our 2023 Indigenous Gulf Stream. Her project's name is "And We Are Still Here: Indigenous Culture Bearers of Houma Communities".

The interviews are near the top in a playlist entitled "Library of Congress Interviews 2023". Enjoy!

Sharing/ boosting this message for #Louisiana #HurricaneFrancine #NOLA and #IndigenousGulf communities (and beyond!).

"Emergency Legal Responders here. We are encouraging folks to report damages to damage.la.gov in the hopes triggering a major disaster declaration. This would allow for FEMA assistance, and maybe DSNAP, and Disaster Unemployment. Spread the word instagram.com/p/C_01WCRxOyZ/?i

Keep in mind reporting damages is for surveying purposes and not actually filing a claim! We’ve seen some confusion over this in the past."

"We wanted to invite you to an exciting event happening at really inconvenient time.

After years of growth and support, Bvlbancha Public Access is ready to organize as a non-profit entity. We hope that this move will further our growth in creating Indigenous organization and relations in the Gulf South. We have all our forms in order, and are looking to hit the button to file over morning coffee July 1st."
