I have been around for a while now, and I still fail to understand why some people write "boost OK" in their posts.

Why would it not be OK to boost public posts in the first place? I feel like most people would be happy to see their post boosted.

Should it not be the opposite: "please no boost" if there is a legit reason for a post not to be boosted? And if that is the case, why not post it to followers only?

hey fedizens, specially people who rely on AltText to experience the web and accessibility specialists, I have a very sincere question for you all: is the situation depicted in the image attached to this post an episode of ableism? this kind of thing has been repeatedly happening in my timeline, sadly recurring amongst visual artists and people who call themselves "progressives" and "activists". so I wanna know if I'm overreacting. thanks in advance!

So this person / startup contacted me to consult on development of their new product, a sort of agricultural drone. They found my #floss work on high-speed cameras and optical flow, and want my help.

Their product and the end-game of a product I'm developing (drone shepherd which protects grazing animals from predators) uses similar technology. So the work would have to be done by me in the end, a few years down the line. I told them I could help out, on the premise that all code I produce is free software.

The thing is, in terms of money... I have no money. I also have more pressing matters at hand, and a lot of features to develop and services to provide for products I already offer.
The company asking me also has no money, for now.

A person has to eat, and I do run a flosshw consultancy, so this is exactly the kind of thing I should take payment to do.

How should I bring up the matter of compensation / providing a livelihood for myself while doing the work?

In light of my getting abruptly kicked off #Oracle Cloud without explanation, can someone recommend a Europe-based, trustworthy, independent or anti-fascist / libre-left-aligned cloud hosting solution?

Big pro if they're a coop or democratic membership org of some sort.

Ideally I want to be able to use #kubernetes or k3s for most workloads, but if they only offer vps or straight-up compose-files; I'll be fine.

I don't want to open any ports in my homenet, so I at least need somewhere trustworthy with a public IP to run my mesh vpn of choice.

I come once again to the fedi for technical assistance:

Is there a way to "copy" a hard drive to move all its information, OS included, to another hard drive?

My linux laptop has a SSD of only 100gb, I would like someday to buy a larger SSD, but I don't want to have to go through the whole process of installing and configuring my OS because I am more than happy with how I have everything (and it would be the third time 😵‍💫).

I have read that there are ways to "clone" a hard drive, although I saw that the capacity is also cloned, so, from what I understood, even with a larger capacity SSD, I would be in the same situation.

I need more or less clarify the question to see if I take the plunge and buy the new SSD or not.

In advance, thank you 😘.

Hey lovely techie people! I am trying to archive an abscure 3DS game that doesn't have much info on it from my own 3DS hardware - that's all fine, I have decompiled the ROM! Feeling good!

However, I have a bunch of .ANIM files and i am wondering if there is a way to convert them maybe to gif, or if there is a software to open them in and then convert to gif?

My searching through years of old forums are getting me nowhere!
