Who is doing the giving is the question.
Particular risks of UBI imho are e.g. lulling people to sleep while AI destroys the entire jobs market, takes firm hold.. and poof.. UBI disappears again.
Another hypothetical: Using #UBI paid by tariffs to hide destruction of gov social support and installment of a fascist regime.
Related: Microfinancing was also broadly abused.

so there's that tension of finding ways of organizing equitably atop a fundamentally alienated substrate.
#UBI for everyone no questions asked would solve a lot of the contradiction on a much more fundamental level. that's what everyone should be pushing for imo, anything else would be a half-measure that capitalists and bureaucrats will exploit
UBI isn’t about making life “too easy.” It’s about making sure life isn’t unnecessarily cruel.
There are enough issues in the world today that we don't need to add financial insecurity to it.
Also, struggle isn’t noble. Suffering isn’t a character test. Fairness means giving everyone the chance to thrive, not just survive.
And you deserve that chance. You deserve #UBI 
Not even joking, the state should guarantee everyone a pressure-free job taking care of the elderly, children and disabled people, including full health benefits and a decent living wage.
This I think this would be a better solution for society than #UBI.

Maybe… the people who want to do it, at a fair wage? Maybe... the task will get automated?
Maybe the real question is: why do we accept that some jobs should be so miserable and underpaid that people only do them out of desperation?
#UBI forces us to value labor instead of exploiting it and it gives us the freedom to choose the jobs we take.
@EUCommission No doubt there are problems in investments this big. There are needs elsewhere. And AI is very problematic. Energy, real benefits?, possible AI takeover?
BUT China and US are massively investing in AI.
With AI one can launch such cyber attacks that other can counter only with AI.
Therefore - EU must also invest in AI.
Or else "they" will conquer us too.

I don't like at all Red Hat #UBI container images, and for all of you that would argue about the security, these images are not much secure as other ones... our duty as engineers is to think in the goal, not to follow the corporate policies no matter the price... someone had to say it

I should add that I haven't read the Halifax Examiner's article - As I seem to have become a professional whistleblower, with no chance of being re-employed and zero income for 3 years I can't afford subscriptions over food and meds. I am kind of invested in the future of this #UBI lark :)
What I am working on is an advocacy network for front-line safety workers, you know the people who look at child abuse and murders all day - #UBI would also be a big help there!
2/2 Despite what FOX news hosts wail all the time, humans by nature are not lazy so they won't stop working. But UBI would fundamentally change society.
Although Guaranteed Income will help keep people out of poverty, it's a stopgap under firm government control and doesn't change the nature of work at all.
It will be interesting to see who starts talking GI instead of UBI.

UBI at the right level gives workers a choice where they want to work and what wages they will accept, and extends that to people being able to pick zero wage income and just volunteering or running small business that don't need to make a profit. In a strong sense, it creates the ultimate free market capitalism.
