@rl_dane
I've been using #KMail for years, but as part of the larger #Kontact app (which gives you Outlook like functionality (contacts, calendar & more)). The interface has not changed over the years.
The idea of identities been different to the accounts allows you to (for example) separate work and personal. For example with each identity you can set up a different signature, and which email address / SMTP server it uses. However the setup for this does need work and is initially confusing for new users.
Note I recently tried #Thunderbird and hated it - I use keyboard short-cuts and TB's were browser-based and not email based (eg CTRL-R / CTRL-U for mark read / unread). I found no way of changing them while being #KDE, that is always an option in #Kmail.
So it's basically #Thunderbird with AI then.
Nope, #Mozilla. Nope.

I used Evolution full-time for a number of years.
Not sure why I switched to #Thunderbird, other than it's just gotten a lot better in the past few years, and the fact that I can make it respect my window management preferences, unlike GTK programs.
Man, when did GTK get so... so... flippin' IDEOLOGICAL?
You're a piece of software! Get over yourself!
Sorry. XD
Just curious, does anybody use #KDE #Kmail?
I'm just toying around with the idea of switching my work machine from Debian to KDE Neon to get super-up-to-date KDE programs, and I wonder how usable KMail would be as an alternative to #Thunderbird (which I still really like).
The bird is out of the bag! We're introducing Thunderbird Pro (you already know Appointment!), a set of productivity AND privacy boosting services. And that includes...*drum roll*...an email service we're calling Thundermail. Find all the info in this excellent article:
Finally! Mozilla Thunderbird challenges Gmail with its own email service. And that's just the beginning...

Woke this morning with an email from #Scotia bank about my account. I don't have a Scotia account.
Usually, I ignore these as phishing, but I have a #Thunderbird add-on that tells me when SPF and DKIM pass. And the "from" domain was truly scotia bank. So, yes, it did come from them.
Spent 30 minutes on the phone bouncing around, queuing and waiting while they checked. Their conclusion is that their customer carelessly entered my email address instead of their own, and they will contact the customer.
Two things.
Email addresses should always be validated with an OTP. When will banks learn this?
Second: Some people are a pain in the ass.

If you use #Thunderbird I highly recommend the DKIM checker plugin.
Even if the DKIM is valid, it's a nice extra reminder of the domain name of the sender too.
Hint: ...I don't think this is one NVIDIA uses :) Sad that email has ended up this way.
#Evolution for #windows .... is that an actual thing?
Would like to have an alternative to #outlook that can handle #owa with #exchange right out of the box.
#Thunderbird cannot handle Exchange, you need a (paid) plugin 4 this.
Any tips?
Betterbird. Simply better
Betterbird is better than Thunderbird in three ways: It contains new features exclusive to Betterbird, it contains bug fixes exclusive to Betterbird and it contains fixes that Thunderbird may ship at a later stage.

I still get notifications now and then for 24yo #Thunderbird bugs I subscribed to back when it was my Usenet reader. Those were good times.
@nw @thunderbird Agreed, #Thunderbird search is really unsatisfying. I mostly go to the folder I'm expecting to find what I'm looming for and then use the filter function, much more reliable.
(Even though the filtering is unfortunately much slower in @ubuntu's #snap version than is used to be as #deb )
Is it just me or is #Thunderbird's search completely broken? It doesn't find what I am looking for 90% of the time, and certain emails frequently don't show up at all when searching for keywords that are absolutely appearing in the email I am looking for. Then, once I've found that email and opened it once, it suddenly also appears in search. Seems like emails aren't reliably indexed, even after manually triggering a folder sync and even though the respective account and folders have been made available offline (i.e. fully downloaded). @thunderbird
