Markets in Q1: #ETTTTS

Whereas the major risk back in Jan was that #Trump's 'America first' policies would push #inflation back up & prevent #US interest rate cuts, now the most important risk is #recession risk.

That has spun the $140T global bond #market 180°.

#Gold, the ultimate safe port in a storm, has had its best quarter since 1986 due to Trump's #TradeWar & the #dollar is flirting w/its worst start to a year since the 2008 global bust.

One of my colleagues is pondering the lack of a great market to visit in Sydney. It is a bit of a puzzler.

"Even in Australia, you can visit some greats. Melbourne has several of at least the southern hemisphere’s finest: South Melbourne Market is perfection; Prahran Market has great produce and a strong local vibe; while Queen Victoria Market is a genuine tourist attraction that has been there for almost 150 years. Adelaide, too, has its Central Market, which is world-class.

"So … what’s going on with Sydney? Can you call yourself one of the world’s great cities when you don’t have a great market? Where do you tell visitors to Sydney to go when they want to shop for the best fresh produce and artisan goods like a local would, in a beautiful space surrounded by residents picking up a few of their favourite things."

Now this number is hard to wrap your head around, but Tesla's #market cap loss its valuation lost in this short period is equivalent to $800 billion."

I love spending mornings in the nearby town centre. I just putter around, have coffee at cafes, buy food for the day or visit the market. Usually I would walk to the town centre but today I forsee a late walk back and don't want to roast on the walk back home. So I drove halfway.

The food at the market is so much cheaper than the supermarket's! I mean, I have always known this but today I found out just how much.
For example, 15 eggs is RM6.90, while the same amount could be about RM9 (correction, it's RM11.50!) or more at the supermarket. Around 180g of minced pork is about RM10 but in the market, 500g of pork is about RM12.

I love markets. Sure, Malaysian markets are not as fancy as the ones in Australia, but it can't be beat for liveliness, variety and prices.
