The natural climate pattern La Niña started to make her presence felt last fall. Now, she's on her way out. According to a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, things have shifted into a "neutral" phase, which is forecast to last into at least early fall. Forecasters are predicting an active hurricane season and above average temperatures nearly everywhere in the U.S. aside from the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Northern Tier. Here's more from @CNN.

CNN · La Niña is dead. Here’s what to expect in the coming monthsBy Mary Gilbert

As the climate warms, the atmosphere is getting thirstier. Thirstwaves have become more widespread and are affecting regions such as the Southwest, Northern Plains, and Northern Rockies, which might not have experienced them in previous decades. The likelihood that a region won't experience a thirstwave at all during the year has also decreased. Continuing to measure and track thirstwaves will be crucial for crop and water management in the coming years, especially as the climate continues to warm, the researchers say. #Climate #ClimateChange #Weather #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency #GlobalWarming #Environment

Trump’s EPA Plans to Stop Collecting Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data From Most Polluters

Climate experts expressed shock and dismay at the move. “It would be a bit like unplugging the equipment that monitors the vital signs of a patient that is critically ill,” one said.

"The administration will cut work on the National Climate Assessment, a comprehensive report published every five years on how climate change affects the United States.

The last assessment, published in 2023, said #ClimateChange was increasingly imposing costs on Americans, as prices rise for weather-related insurance or certain foods, and as medical care becomes more expensive as people face threats like extreme heat."

How did the @ScientistRebellion movement emerge and spread so quickly around the world? My new book, Science in Resistance (out in October with UC Press) documents the evolution of the SR movement over the past 5 years. Combining personal stories, interviews with scientist-activists, and insights from research on direct action and academia, I explore the challenges scientists face when taking a stand for climate and ecological justice.

Half of the proceeds will go to SR and allied climate justice groups.
