After ten years of shooting with #Fujifilm APS-C cameras, latterly the X-T4, I'm about to switch systems - back to #Nikon. I'm going full frame with the Z8, I think, which makes a lot of sense as I shoot a lot of low light images.
Plus, I want to do a lot more wildlife and bird photography this spring and summer, so will be investing in a 180-600mm zoom lens and relying on a big step up in autofocus performance.
I may go quiet on here for a wee while but I'll be back.

I'm going to rent a Sony A7C II; what lenses should I check out? Will mostly be using it for street photography, so size and portability are a big consideration, but lenses for landscape photography would also be fun.

Bonus points for non-Sony glass, as those are already well on my radar. #camera #cameras #photography

A photo of a polar bear surrounded by flowers has won the second Nature Photography Contest. Christopher Paetkau took the shot in the Arctic using a drone. @Phoblographer took a look at all the gear Paetkau and other winning photographers used. The writer's conclusion: "It’s proof that the absolute most expensive gear is really only used for the most extreme situations."

Anti-Surveillance #Mapmaker Refuses #Flock Safety's Cease and Desist Demand

Flock Safety’s car-tracking #cameras have been spreading across the USA like an invasive species, preying on public safety fears and gobbling up massive amounts of sensitive driver data. The technology not only tracks vehicles by their license plates, but also creates “fingerprints” of each vehicle, including the make, model, color & other distinguishing features.

Electronic Frontier Foundation · Anti-Surveillance Mapmaker Refuses Flock Safety's Cease and Desist DemandFlock Safety loves to crow about the thousands of local law enforcement agencies around the United States that have adopted its avian-themed automated license plate readers (ALPRs). But when a privacy activist launched a website to map out the exact locations of these pole-mounted devices, the...

Speaking of #cameras, I have had a Minolta X-700 film system since I was a Sports Reporter in Reedley, CA 1986-88 and west coast auto racing photographer.

Mostly shot Tri-X 400 pushed to 1,600, with the Minolta motor drive giving me about 3 FPS. The paper bought the film, and the Lab Tech developed it, made me contact sheets, and printed out the shots to "paste up" on the page.

It holds sentimental value and I've never been able to sell it. Now I see film cameras making a comeback. Hmmm

Underwater photography used to be the preserve of the pros, largely thanks to the price of gear and the difficulty of using it. Nowadays, camera and housings are cheaper and don't require such expertise, and there's also invaluable editing software. Here's a @Flipboard Storyboard from @miaq about how to take and edit breathtaking underwater photos, plus gear reviews, and some prizewinning shots for inspiration.

Hackaday: A 3D Printed Camera You Can Now Download, Shutter And All. “A couple of years ago we were excited to read news of an entirely 3D printed camera, right down to the shutter. We wrote it up back then but sadly the required STL files were not yet available. Now after time away with his family, its creator [Mark Hiltz] is back. The medium-format Pioneer Camera can now be downloaded for […]
