Leah and I spent our first night at the cabin last night. A milestone. This was the sky last night at midnight. #CabinLife #Nunavut

Built in shelves are finished. Closer and closer to the finish line. #CabinLife #Nunavut
Long day with little visible progress. Fixed the shelving error from the other day and f’d around with a ton of tiny details. Making the weirdness work and (hopefully) seem less weird. Like the look of the corner face frame on the shelf. #CabinLife #Nunavut
Thought I was doing well tonight getting the shelves in place, but a mistake at the start compounded. As they always do. Sitting back to plan the face frame I saw the error. Now I have to redo it tomorrow. #CabinLife #Nunavut
The built ins have been pretty much built in now. Shelves need to be plumbed and made flush with each other. And everything needs a face frame. But, big step done. #CabinLife #Nunavut
Today’s work requires a bit of explanation. In the old days (but after colonization) Inuit would line their qarmaq with newspaper or magazines.
We did one of our walls as a feature wall and an homage. We used a couple of old Life magazines.
The second photo shows what I mean, but it’s taken through glass so the quality isn’t good. The young girl in the centre is an elder on our Joint Parks Management Committee. Taken when she lived in a qarmaq up Navy Board Inlet #CabinLife #Nunavut
My wife took a short video of the cabin after we painted this afternoon. Leah Ejangiaq Kines #CabinLife #Nunavut
Got the solar up and running this afternoon. Once I swept some snow of a couple panels. It was still helping power the cabin quite a while after the sun went down. #CabinLife #Nunavut
New short cabin content up on my blog, The House and other Arctic Musings #CabinLife #Nunavut
Poke around in there if you go, there’s a lot of older content.

We had some fireworks left over from New Years. So after work, painting sills and jambs, and a wonderful family supper at the in-laws’ cabin, we set them off. #CabinLife #Nunavut
And yet another cabin post. About getting to the cabin. It’s up now. #CabinLife #Nunavut
