Yes I am terrified about flying right now. No, I do not wish to just attribute this to a "random cluster" until someone can say positively that the corporate owned airlines and Emperor Trump's FAA are not contributing to this in any way.

The US Sun · Horror moment Southwest plane narrowly avoids crash with private jet as pilot gasps ‘how did that h...By Carsen Holaday

Watching the evening news about the Toronto CRJ crash, and the reporter, a retired #Airline & Military pilot, said this (I am paraphrasing):

"The flight crew of Delta 4819 did everything right in the evacuation, in the most challenging of circumstances. You had the #airplane upside down, visible fire, and the right wing ripped off."

He also said that for those of us who ignore the safety briefing, this crash proves you-all had better take the Airpods out and listen up next flight.

Interesting #airline moment. I walked up to the gate to board my #flight to London. I had out my British passport. They wanted me to stand in front of the camera. I refused. They said you can’t opt out unless you have an American passport. Now, I don’t want to be “that guy” so I stepped to the side and let others pass while I got out my American passport. I opted out and that was that. But now I need to figure out if they were right. This was a united flight out of Dulles. Not sure to what extent this might be a “law” or a company policy or a border control thing or just a misunderstanding by the ground staffer. Anybody know?

#airline#technology”: it goes ding. Then a human—an underrated piece of technology—says “please step to the side, it’s not your turn yet.”

Airlines will soon replace this with #AI that will say “please do not board. You have too much carrion”

Axios Richmond · American Airlines' "gate lice" technology not coming to Richmond yetBy Karri Peifer

Flying on an airline I had an idea of an ACTUALLY useful application for machine learning. They routinely make announcements in the cabin. And except in rare cases the announcement is only in English. #ML is pretty good at translation. The seat back pockets could have closed captioning, not just in English for people who need it, but in other languages too. And so much of the phrases are repeated and standardised. The model could be tuned really well.

It’s a bit of a surprise they don’t do it. Then I realised that not only is there no revenue stream from this, it’s just a cost to benefit customers. So that’s probably a lot of why they don’t do it. #airline #travel
