The 15-wk #AbortionBan had already been paused since Dec, when Reuss & other providers filed suit, which argued that the ballot measure, which adds constitutional protections for #abortion until about 24 wks, meant the ban was now #unconstitutional. #Arizona’s AG, Kris Mayes, had agreed not to enforce the ban while litigation played out.

The short ruling, from Judge Frank Moskowitz of #MaricopaCounty superior court, agreed the 15-wk ban was unconstitutional & forbade AZ ofcls from enforcing it.

The program authorizes #ICE to designate certain state & local officers to question & arrest people they *suspect* of violating federal #immigration laws during their regular patrols.

…In #Arizona’s #MaricopaCounty, Sheriff #JoeArpaio was #convicted in 2017 of #criminal contempt of court for ignoring a federal judge’s order to stop detaining residents because he suspected them of being in the US illegally. #Trump gave Arpaio a #pardon during his first term.

At Wednesday’s press conference, #MaricopaCounty Atty Rachel Mitchell denounced #PoliticalViolence.

“It is our duty to uphold #justice & #democracy,” she said. “This means speaking out against political violence & those who seek to intimidate or harm #voters or people who are participating in the political process.”

She said her office had requested a $1M cash-only bond, but the judge set a $500k cash-only bond & ordered electronic monitoring.

“The state & law enforcement believe that this person was preparing to commit an act of mass casualty w/the #guns he had, & that his progression of #violence was escalating,” Deputy #MaricopaCounty Atty Neha Bhatia said at Kelly’s initial court appearance Wed.

…Kelly also attached clear plastic baggies w/a white substance & labelled them: “biohazard”, police said. The substance inside was ultimately determined to be non-hazardous.
