Did not sugarcoat the situation.

But we don’t live there anymore. We live in a country where the fed govt allies itself w/Russian & South American #dictators while taking sides against #democratic #allies. A country that threatens its neighbors w/annexation. A country that views the #GenevaConventions as namby-pamby suggestions that only apply to suckers & losers. A country that uses #SecretPolice.

And perhaps most importantly, a country where the regime no longer abides by rulings from the existing #legal system.

Another standard of liberal governments is that people who present themselves through #legal pathways as #refugees fleeing #oppression are vetted & provided #DueProcess, not disappeared into foreign gulags.

And yet, here we are.

#NY has a #ShieldLaw that is intended to protect #AbortionProviders who send medications to patients in other states.

New York is 1 of 8 states that have enacted “telemedicine abortion shield laws” after #SCOTUS overturned the national right to an #abortion in 2022. The laws prevent ofcls from extraditing abortion providers to other states or from responding to subpoenas & other #legal actions…

The action by the NY court is the first time that an abortion shield law has been used.

Bringing that up here because I heard someone has a case against its former employer because of the money talk.

The employer shields itself saying it "brought discourse, uneasiness and hostility to the employees environment". Contract stipulates salary as non-disclosable.

The employee says, it's null and void to censor an employee speech about his salary, or employment conditions, inside the business.

Who would win?

The result is an extraordinary threat to fundamental #constitutional rights of #DueProcess & #LegalRepresentation….

#Legal scholars say no previous US admin has taken such concerted action against the legal establishment, with #Trump’s predecessors in both parties typically respecting the constitutionally enshrined tenet that everyone deserves effective representation in court & that #lawyers cannot be targeted simply for the cases & clients they take on.

#Trump’s crackdown on #lawyers is having a chilling effect on his opponents’ ability to defend themselves or challenge his actions….

#Biden-era ofcls said they’re having trouble finding #lawyers willing to defend them. The volunteers & small nonprofits forming the ground troops of the #legal resistance to #Trump admin actions say that the well-resourced #LawFirms that once would have backed them are now steering clear.
