Colombia chooses the JAS-39 #Gripen as their next fighter aircraft, replacing the Kfir, an Israeli variant of the Mirage 5. This is the deal USA was supposed to veto based on Gripen using an American GE F414 engine.

@mcc We have an excellent company called SAAB here in the Nordics, which produces a jet fighter specially designed for northern latitutes called the JAS-39 Gripen.

@Gurre Apparently the USA is now blocking the sale of Swedish Gripen fighters to Colombia in order to sell their own F-16s...
They can veto the sale due to some components, such as the GE engines, being of American origin.
I recently suggested pan-European collaboration with South-Korea based on their KF-21 platform, but they had also gone with GE engines (F414; same as used in the Gripen E/F) over the European Eurojet alternative.
Perhaps it would be a good idea for South-Korea to reconsider things for the next Block 2 version?

I'm no expert, but with everything that's happening in the US, we really ought to look at cancelling that order for Lockheed-Martin's F-35s and go with Saab's #Gripen instead. Saab's 2022 page on the Gripen is still up:
