They don’t want this film to exist.

We just got refused for our first grant application. Not surprising. In Canada—and around the world—making films about #Palestine is treated as taboo. We knew going into this that it would be an uphill battle. Canadian institutions don’t want to fund projects that expose Israel’s genocidal violence. They want silence. They want compliance.

But we’re not stopping. This film will be made.

It’s becoming clear that "A Red Road to the West Bank" may have to be 100% crowdfunded. And that’s fine. Because we’d rather make this film on our own terms than bow to institutions that refuse to speak the truth.

So we’re gearing up for more fundraisers, screenings, and community support. If you haven’t donated yet, or if you know someone who would stand behind a project like this, please share this link:

They won’t fund our resistance. But we will. ✊🔥

#Arizona #TwoSpirit #Powwow empowers community amid growing #AntiTrans legislation

Tuesday, March 4, 2025
By Brandelyn Clark

"The Arizona Two Spirit Powwow returned to #PhoenixArizona on Saturday, February 22, to spotlight Indigenous #LGBTQ+ and two-spirit people for a day of cultural celebration and community.

"Hosted at South Mountain Community College, the event welcomed dancers, drum groups and attendees from across the region. More than just a traditional gathering, the powwow allowed two-spirit individuals to celebrate their identities and honor their place in Indigenous culture.

“'This (powwow) is a perfect example of a #SafeSpace for people to come and dance in whatever category they want to dance in, dress the way that they feel good about themselves, love who they want to love, and they are safe here. This tells the community we are here, we are here for you,' Sheila Lopez said.

"Lopez is the founder of Arizona’s first Two Spirit Powwow and the first Native chapter of #PFLAG, which bills itself as the country’s largest advocacy organization that supports LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.

"President Donald Trump’s recent executive actions have left #transgender and two-spirit communities uncertain about their rights and recognition going forward.

"'It is super important right now with the administration, what they’re doing to pretty much wipe away trans people. It’s super critical right now for us to continue to show up in the community, to say we’re here, we’re not going anywhere and you can’t erase us, period,' Lopez said."

There's talk of a #doge #stimulus with an income minimum

It won't be to help those most in need

It will be to pad the pockets of those who most profit from #consumerism

It may be said that the #middleclass can't help those in need, because so much already goes to supporting #capitalism

Then stop

Engage in mutual survival, not feeding the machine

The machine that continues to bring poverty & death to families such as #SabiLewSounds & family

Luxury built on destruction. Leisure built on land theft. From stolen Kanien’kehá:ka territory to the ruins of #Gaza, settler colonialism always finds a way to turn genocide into real estate. The golf course is just the latest version of the same old story—erasing Indigenous people to make room for profit. This is exactly the point we’re making with our film: the struggle against land theft and colonial violence connects Indigenous peoples across the world. Kanehsatà:ke and Gaza are not so different.

"To #decolonize the state means essentially to dismantle the political, administrative, cultural, financial, economic, educational, judicial and other systems which, as an integral part of the colonial state, were solely designed to impose foreign domination...” ~ Samora Machel

Many many people online and in real life want you to think that #BlackLivesMatter to them, even if talk is cheap and actions mean a whole lot more. But for sure, Native Lives Do Not Matter to them and they are gonna watch that game and support racist systems anyway.

Because this is the dominant US culture, it's all about me; the community and others do not count.

Want to decolonize? #Decolonize yourself first.

There are those most affected by #government policy & malice in the hearts of the masses, who are responded to with apathy if they don't vie for a prize of being seen as worthy of investment, either for their ability, soothing aches in the helper or for prestige

That is hierarchical & employing the dynamic present throughout society, as for millennia people who don't fit societal expectations are left to die

🚀 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Clifton & I Are Making a Film – A Red Road to the West Bank 🎬

Clifton Ariwakehte Nicholas and I have been friends for a long time. We’ve worked on films together before, but this is the first time that we’re truly co-directing a project—both of us taking the wheel. And it all started with a conversation about a much bigger film we want to make.

For a while now, Clifton and I have been talking about a documentary with the working title You Live on Stolen Land, exploring our shared experiences with colonialism—as a Kanien’kehá:ka from Kanehsatà:ke and as a Boricua from occupied Borikén. But in one of those conversations, Clifton casually dropped that he had all this footage from his trip to the West Bank in 2016. I was like, dude, what the fuck are we doing? We HAVE to do something with that footage.

So we started digging in, watching the tapes, talking through ideas, and what emerged was a powerful story—one that draws connections between the struggles of Indigenous peoples in Turtle Island and the Palestinian experience under the colonial state of Israel. Obviously, the histories and conditions are different—the colonization of the Americas started centuries ago and is in a different phase—but the core reality remains: colonization is ongoing.

That’s the main point we’re trying to make with this film.

And we don’t want to just make a film—we want to build relationships. We want to bring people from Palestine to visit Turtle Island, we want to do more interviews, we want to expand this story. But to do that, we need resources.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from working on Yintah was that if you want a film to reach a lot of people, you need to invest in the early stages. The development materials, the research, the pitch decks, the editing—all of it matters when knocking on doors to secure funding for a truly high-quality film. With Yintah, that process helped us get wide distribution, and I know we can do the same here.

So today, Clifton and I are launching our fundraising campaign to kickstart this project. This is just the first step, but it’s a crucial one.

🔥 Support the film & help us tell this story: amplifierfilms.ca/redroad

If this resonates with you, please donate, share, and help us get the word out. Let’s make this happen.

In 2016, Kanien’kehá:ka filmmaker Clifton Ariwakehte Nicholas traveled to Palestine, witnessing firsthand the struggles of Palestinians resisting occupation. A Red Road to the West Bank is a documentary about the deep parallels between Indigenous struggles in North America and Palestine—two peoples fighting against settler colonialism, displacement, and erasure.

This film is currently in development, and we need your support to create the materials necessary to secure further funding. Our goal for this development phase is $10,000, which will allow us to build key pitch materials, begin early-stage editing, and prepare for full-scale production.
Your contribution will directly fund research, filming, editing, and outreach—ensuring that this urgent story is told.
