Weird design urge of the moment: mentally sketching out a five part, high-trust adventure series for Champions. Ancient villain seeking revenge, aliens, sea creatures, techno-ghosts of dead superheroes, imperiled astronauts, lots of little 1930s pulp callouts.
Listened to a podcast discussing Champions and the Hero System (it's called BAMF, if you're interested, and the episode is from January this year). Rather more factual errors than I expected to hear, but still reasonably enjoyable.
The best part for me was the last-minute mention of a fairly obscure Hero System rule I'd previously overlooked: Skill Multipliers. Found on page 45 of the Advanced Player's Guide, it's quite a brief method for adding groups of skills (for a lawyer, for example) to a character without having to go through adding and listing them all individually. Looks like it streamlines certain character types rather neatly.
There are lots of options like this in Hero, which is in general little like the monster of mathematics and complexity it is popularly depicted as, but ironically many of them do indeed turn up buried in things like the Advanced Player's Guide…
