Question to enthusiasts:

How do I avoid vendor lock-in with expensive NVRs and other PC equipment in order to create a small CCTV network of about 100 IP cameras in a wireless network?

I understand that the radio/network technology is closed/proprietary + the IP cameras are closed/proprietary, but hopefully there is an OSS solution that can achieve what commercial NVRs can?

I'd also like to avoid Zoneminder.

Seeking suggestions.
